My Awards!
Thanks for the tips, also sorry we didn't put up some comments but I think they must have got the wrong person with some of the nasty things they said...I have feelings you know! So any back to my awards, I am picking my favourite's and people around me rather than in world athletics....Here it goes!
Best Supporting Act - Dad
There are a few like Alan Mead to the team I am in, Aaron my best mate who does everything and anything I ask of him, Lee who puts up with me, my mum who still does my washing even though I have left home but I am going to go with my Dad this year. Even if he doesn't always agree with some of my thoughts (and comments on this blog) he will always back me up if needed and in short gives me the opportunity to live this life as a part time worker, full time athlete!
Best Race - Gateshead XC
Not many this year so for me it was Gateshead XC, I thought the organization was very impressive i.e. bus's to and from race course. The course was tough but enjoyable and I was starting to get confident and hitting some form, thought I also ran quite well for a skinny road runner!
Worst Race - Richard Burton 10k
Probably Richard Burton 10k last Jan full of cold. Wanted to run to win for 4th time but body was knackered, ended up running 32.50 and barley moving at the end. Glad I finished but it was a very bad start to the year and knocked me for six confidence wise.
Biggest Tit - Welsh Chief Exec (don't know his name)
Sharpy emailed saying Maria's left one but I meant plonker! (await shapry email). O there's a few, Brian Blanford for charging us to use a track that wasn't his track time, the Welsh road committee who voted NOT to pick me because I 'flout the rules' at Brighton 10k, Gwent League making rules to stop guest runners even though it improves standards.... But the Welsh Chief Exec who lied to my face and made up a load of rubbish to suit himself, looking like a right 'Tit' in the process.
Favourite Team Mate - Steve Sharp
O toughie, I like a lot of them I talk to a fair few quite regular. I talk to Wicks a lot on emails and have same sort of thoughts on training etc, I phone Pollard a bit and really enjoy his company (could talk for hours to him), I got on well with Russell Dessaix-Chin who I went to Germany with and still keep in contact amongst others but this year I will go for Sharpy! He and Maria have opened up their home so many times to me this year to stay over for races and it has become like a second home in Birmingham.
Best athlete of 2009 - Phil Wicks
He has been my favourite for few years, just a fan as well as a mate plain and simple. He is like Belgrave's Steven Gerrard...the best way to sum him up.
Most Improved of 2009 - Craig Hopkins
Random selection I agree and nearly went for Simon Lawson. I train with him and when he joined the group about 2 years ago he was running 32 minutes and now he has run 30.08 and 67 for the half. He trains hard and consistent even if he does sometimes go over board. Next year I think he might surprise a few people...if he listens to George!
Best Newcomer - Richard Goodman
This one is easy, had never heard of him till a few weeks ago! Very impressive wining the junior trials at just 16.
Clubman of The Year - Marc Hobbs
This guy to be fair has a massive love for his club, I thought about Will Cockerell and Alex Donald (Cardiff) but Marc just pips him for all the texts, phone calls trying to organise people, booking flights, arranging lifts for people and seeing what he does on regular basis and he is a die hard Swansea Harrier...I respect that.
Lifetime Achievement - Dave Mitchinson
A bit strange maybe but my awards! He just gives so much in every race he runs for his team and himself. Even though he is a du-athlete now he still turns out whenever asked and puts his neck on the line. I am a fan of his I suppose and although he might not have broken any records you cant fault his dedication.
Best Team Colours - RunnersLife Vest
The New RunnersLife vest coming out in January!
Running Personality of The Year - Will Sharman
Was thinking Usain Bolt or even the road running scene but then remembered his interviews after the worlds and think he had more to say than the usual rubbish corporate lines that even the 100m World Record Holder comes out with, and I don't get the whole celebration he does either people get hysterical about it but its as good as shearer raising one arm after a goal and just as repetitive.
Worst Team Colours - Leeds
Just looks like your typical 80's vest even though they were probably made last year. I would feel about 50 years old just putting it on! You got to look good to feel good haven't you, I am also not a fan of Salford, Les Croupiers, Bridgend, Coventry or Bedford...I do like the Tipton and Aldershot colours though.
Best Team - Belgrave 12 stage
Nearly went for Newhams impressive 6stage team but think getting 12 runners as good as we did was very hard to and wont be seen again for a long time. No injury's or illness's and around 5minutes ahead of second, after party wasn't bas either...proper team sprit.
Best Training Route - Margam Mountain
Margam Mountain, especially on frosty morning. Run for hours and not see anyone up there, great views as well.
Best Trainers - Triumph
Straight forward, piece of genius.
Worst Race Prize - Cookies
Hereford 5k, good race but it's a dire prize to be fair!
Best Part of RunnersLife 2009 - Guest Runner
Stats don't lie.
RunnersLife Athlete of The Year - Nick Goolab
Performances speak for themselves; Sp8y also did well in making the Euro Indoor Final.
Well that's it I am sure I have forgotten someone but always next year.
