6 weeks I have been in my new house now and apart from food shopping (never a good time) I am settling into a good routine now and enjoying my running again. Training this week has been tough so far, mainly because the weekend was quite hard work which has left my legs not exactly fresh but that said the times are not that bad.
Tuesday I joined 14 guys....I know! Suddenly everyone seems to be out again. We went down to Neath track even though all the guys are with Swansea but it is such a hassle to get to Swansea I am glad they have agreed to change. With Swansea you have to drive through a mountain of traffic right through the city at peak rush time and being further away it can take over an hour from my house, Neath being just off the motorway takes about 20mins which is a hell of a difference! Then there is the price, at Swansea they charge £3.40 which is a rip off and have never paid, the council actually take £3.20 of it so only 20p goes to the club. At Neath though they have done me a good deal and have agreed a set price for the whole group when we come down, lets just say its more than £2 off the Swansea price...top Neath lads!
The actual session was hard work, probably because of Sunday with 4x1k and then 8x300m. I couldn't brake 2.50 although the breathing wasn't hard work but the legs felt like I was dragging weights, the 300m reps then after a lap jog were a bit better in 47s with a minute recovery. I grinded it out on the front with Craig Hopkins before driving home to Lee's homemade chicken stew which was lovely!!
Wednesday I had the morning off so Dad came around to do some drilling as I can't, well I am a delicate athlete! Once he had finished doing the lawns for me I got ready for a 10miler with George telling me "5.40 pace but only if it's not a real strain" but after the first mile which was about 5.43 pace the rest felt good and was hitting 5.35's comfortably with the odd 5.25 on a couple of slightly down hill sections. I actually drove back to do this in Porthcawl on one of my old routes as mum was making me dinner after the run, yum..yum.
This seemed like the only time I had to do food shopping this week with Lee so we hit Tesco at 7pm (sorry Pollard), trouble was I got sucked into their upstairs part with telly's and other exciting gadgets so didn't get out till 9pm just in time for Braveheart on Film4!
