Goodbye Spring...Hello Summer

So as London Marathon fades into the background for another year and everyone looks forward to the track season while I just look forward to actually training. Of course I cant continue without saying well done to Ben for his great run on the weekend, it was good to see all the British athletes coming in with Lemoncello leading the way and then Andi Jones who is Mr Consistent just ahead of Ben and then guys like Dave 'arm warmers' Norman hammering in and no doubt screaming with pain (still hear the ringing in my head from a track race last summer). I also think the carrot approach works better than the stick and seeing guys gaining vests for sub 2.18 will surely give more guys that extra motivation to get out there knowing there is a chance of major games and then hopefully see a snowball effect and improve standards.

Anyway back to me as it's my blog and I want to talk about me! I did my first session for what feels like years with Lewys Hobbs on Tuesday just doing 9 miles and knocking out 6x3minutes along a river pathway with minute jog in between. I had no idea what to expect. The first rep was awful and very hard work but got into it by the 3rd although blowing through my....well, bum. Lewys had a bad stomach on the 5th and while he threw up on the path I did the final effort and was glad to get it done, I realise it is a long road back and with the foot not 100% I cant really crack on with things. No session Thursday as only first week back but thinking about doing a low key 5k Saturday to see where I am at, the best news is the injection date is 13th May which will hopefully mean I can then maybe get a few track races in at the end of the summer.

It was good to have a little run with 'Big Lew' and sort of miss the training group session on a Tuesday although I knocked out a sub 10second 100m effort yesterday. Running into the dunes I was head down just thinking about breakfast later and not really looking where I was going until something moved and looked up to see one of the highland bulls. Now these big boys don't normally venture to this part but an open gate gave them free roam and they were chilling as I jogged into them. 5seconds after a stare off I won and they turned and jogged, so I carried on....the only problem was around the next corner I ran around and they must have panicked and were now coming at me!! 'Fu*k' was the noise I believe I made and turned to sprint my little legs off and was expecting a horn in my back but when I plucked up the courage to turn around they weren't there, when my heart rate went back down below 200 I just jogged around the golf course instead.

Be careful out there runners, it is a dangerous place with dogs, Lions and Panthers....yes I Panther once roamed the mountain I use which is another story!
