Lawson Vs Jones

I don't often go to the doctor like most runners as I never really like taking antibiotics and I don't like being around ill people so tend to ride it out, but with my foot I have to go so yesterday I went back to see the doctor and get my X-Ray results. It might just be me but everyone else in the waiting room seems to know each other like it's a weekly meeting place, probably to get signed off work for another week or something.

Anyway as we all knew the X-Ray showed nothing but at least I can tick that off the list. Next up then is the ultrasound scan to show any damage to ligaments in the foot, apparently it will take 3 weeks to get an appointment and I just have to wait for the letter to tell me when. I was told it may be 8 weeks so it's a good thing not bad.

I was hanging on training wise to race Sunday in a local 10k but have been suffering a bit to be honest although I ran the course on Monday in a steady run in 33minutes (very hilly course) so I was not in terrible shape. I will stop now and hit the bike and pool for 2-3 weeks and then hopefully get the scan to tell me everything has healed by then. I have already phoned 'Big Lew' (lewys Hobbs) the mountain bike king! (former GB mountain bike rider) so I will be trying to hold on to him for the next couple of weeks over Margam mountain and Afan Argoed and then doing my sessions in the pool.

Next couple of weeks will be like this:-

           Morning                   Night

Mon - Bike (hour easy) + Aqua Jog

Tues - Xtrainer/ weights + Swim

Wed - Bike (hour easy) + Aqua Jog

Thur - Xtrainer / weights + Swim

Fri   - Aqua Jog             +  maybe a very light jog

Sat   - Xtrainer              +    Swim

Sun  - Bike (3-4hours)

*open swim times sort of dictates when I can do the Aqua Jogging.

There are always positives to every thing and this is now the gym/pool I will be using has a Jacuzzi and Aaron uses it so we can have a good chat in the Jacuzzi and maybe even enjoy a bottle of Leppin together!

As I write this I hear the 10k race I was going to do is re-scheduled for March time and the txt's have been going back and forth with fellow welsh distance runner Simon Lawson who is also injured that the battle for the title is back on! I reckon its 3-1 to me but then I am including the two times he didn't run so maybe it is 1-1 and winner takes all in March....as Lawson said "it's on!"

Cross training can be difficult to arrange: getting in pool at appropriate times, waiting for ice to go so you can cycle outside. If
you are doing different activities, it can be easy to train too much or too hard. Try for a balanced schedule for a week, 1 long ride, 1 or 2 hard session in pool (1 long efforts - 8 x 3 mins and one tempo with 15 easy, 30 hard and 15 easy, some strength work and other recovery work ie
swim, cross trainer.
