Hotter By The Day
Ok so I just about came away without egg on my face and running in the 'A' race in Manchester, and apart from some dude running all over the shop and cutting me up about 4 times in the first two laps as he went in and out like a nervous kid who has never run in a pack before I enjoyed the race....well nearly all of it! I got a wicked head ache during the day and was thumping by the time I took to the line and by the end the stars in the eyes were happening, I just want to apologise now for the 'yakking' noise's at the finish but I was so close to being sick and thinking "god I bet everyone is watching" but it was worth it just to edge Sharpy (I'm sure he will argue this).
I will talk more about the race in the race report but as a weekend it was good. Maria Sharp looked after me and Lee while I caught up with the Sharpman and Sharky the cat! He has officially got the best cat in the world bar none with a crazy little dog. We went for a little jog Saturday morning and then the girls took in the rays in the Garden while we went for a little snooze, only to be woken up by Mr Goolab about 1pm showing off his new watch. We all had lunch and then made our way to Manchester about 4pm, I don't remember a lot of the journey as I fell asleep but we got there quite early as Goolab was racing at 7.30pm.
There were a lot of guys there and first off it was big cuddles with Chris Warburton, haven't seen him for a while so was good for a little chat. Then there was old Tenerife roomy, big Damo Moss who was looking very cool and in Lee's words "A Dude!" Good mate Mark Pollard was moaning as always although this time with good reason....his car heaters weren't working so a 3 hour drive with warm air he thought he was going to die! Obviously the RunnersLife guys were there, Drapes and Ryan who I jogged with in the warm up and of course some of the Swansea boys (and girl) who made the long trip up on the day.
A good days racing but by the time my head hit the pillow early Sunday morning I was ready to sleep for days.....no can do though as Lee was working at 12pm so we had breakfast with Sharpy in his Hugh Heffner robe and then shot off down the M5 back to ridiculously busy Porthcawl, a bit of sun attracts people to this seaside resort like 'Winnie the Poo' to honey. There was no way I was running around the place today when its busier than carnival day in New York so I met the Hobbs brothers for a steady 15miler around the mountains at 1pm. Hot doesn't quite cut it to be honest, it was like running around the mountains in southern Spain or something, but at least it wasn't as tough as the 100k mountain bike race going on up there which looked like a request for death in all that gear and helmets battling steep gravel climbs! After just under hour and half with the Hobbs brothers (with nipples now out on show) I carried on for another couple of miles before I started to melt and got a tough run done....and downed my litre of water!
