Saucony Photo Shoot
Milan, Paris, New York.....no I was in Weymouth! Tell me about it, there was me packing the shades, changing money to euros and looking forward to a weekend of fame and fortune and they tell me to head to Weymouth which is basically a bigger version of where I live, a seaside town.
Anyway as a true pro I got on with it and headed to the Deep South which I can tell you is hard work once you get off the motorways. It's like going back 50 years with mountain roads and one lane traffic each side. As usual I forgot directions and a map so sort of winged it and then ran one of the guys as I got to the town. One thing that worry's me these days is clamping and everywhere seems to be 'no parking' so I parked in a McDonalds about 10minute walk away from hotel as I just got a feeling that a seafront would be an off limits place to park....or cost a fortune.
I had a lovely meal at a nice Italian with the 'team' even though I looked a bit stupid with skinny jeans and Triumph trainers having left the shoes in the car and didn't have the energy to walk back to the car having done a run at 7pm when I arrived. O well as dad used to tell me "Are you Welsh....then you can whatever you want!" when I used to ask if I could do something. After the meal and a few Malibu and Pineapple drinks (Mark Pollard refuses to stand next to me when at a club) we headed to the hotel to get a good night sleep before a very long day, no such luck. Being right on the seafront and the hotel not having double glazed windows for most of the night it was like the 'party people' were talking in the room it was that loud. Then at dawn I thought the bin men where driving into my bed!! It didn't help that we agreed to run at 6am before breakfast, so a weary few guys where chugging up the prom in darkness half asleep which ended up being quite romantic which the moonlight bouncing off the sea which was really close (you will know if you have to be to Weymouth).
The actual day is a good laugh but harder than you imagine taking photos to be mainly because of the weather! Standing about in vest and shorts and trying to look like its 30 degrees is strange but again the team where great throwing jumpers, coats, and handing warm drinks to us as we stopped and started all the way until 6pm. Apparently 1,800 pictures where taken but probably only 30 will be used which is probably best as I was messing about in a few! Because the team is the same each time (camera guys etc..) we all know each other now and it's ok to have a giggle and some banter so long as you work hard when you have to and get the shots they want so I enjoyed it much more this time as the first you are not really sure what you can get away with jokes wise.
It was great to take my mind of the actual running which hadn't gone great last few weeks and just have experience that most people will never get. There was bit in the day when I was talking to Lisa (female model) and a guy came up and said "Are you famous?" and I replied with "Yeah I am on RunnersLife!".
Worst bit of the day....4 and half hour journey back home at 6pm!
