South Road Relays

It was a long but good weekend in Milton Keynes and fortunately we won which made a long drive home a bit more bearable along with 'Heart FM'.

I went up to Milton Keynes on the Saturday taking a detour past Luton Airport to pick up Dan Mulhare and Mark Pollard where I got ripped off by the Car Park! I gave myself a lot of time as the m25 has not been good to me over the years but on this day it was a dream and arrived over an hour before due, so I went to short stay car park which I assumed would be a few quid for the hour but as I went through the barrier I looked at the sign and it said '£3 per 15minutes' I was not the only one unhappy but its not the security guys fault so I just paid and left straight away leaving others to have a right go at him...hope he is alright. I drove down the road to an office block and parked there as no one was in work and waiting for a call rather than pay £12 to park for an hour.

Flight came in ok so went to the hotel and walked across the road for dinner which was alright but didn't think the meatballs were up to much and James Kelly who met us there never did get his glass of water.

The next morning we all went for a run for about 20minutes around the lovely Milton Keynes, it's like a cartoon in that place as everything looks the same...as you're running it's like your passing the same stuff over and over. Breakfast was a delight at the premier inn before setting off for the race, again we got a bit lost due to everything looking the same and past a fiat garage 3 times or maybe there were 3 fiat garages!

The race went well and we had good weather for it. Of course Wicks stole the show with his course record but it was a good team performance with a few guys missing and with Saucony sponsoring the race I got to catch up with a couple of guys who didn't run to badly for their teams either.

People don't always want to believe how well we all get on even if we don't train together every morning but its always a great laugh especially after the race with Captain 'Sharpy' taking over to decide the plans for the night out with vice captain helping (sitting down drinking tea and eating cake) after the national relays, looks like it could be a good turn out again for the 'After Party' lets hope we have something to celebrate.

I had to shoot off before the presentation and with a lot of traffic I was glad I did! I finally got home about 9pm but getting some great songs like 'dance with somebody', 'rule the world' and classic Jackson songs it made up for listening to Man Utd winning! In case you wondered it's the Jason Donavon show on Heart FM which rivals the Tony Hadley Hour on Absolute radio Saturday night.
