Running In The Rain

It's raining......well put a rain jacket on and get out there!

That's what Lance told me in his book 'How Lance Does it' (The Bible) which is a great book and probably my favourite out of them all, a present from Stuart Stokes a couple of years ago. I thought of that line as I looked out the window tonight with rain lashing the window, I popped a gillet on top of my t-shirt and headed out! It took all of 1 minute to be soaked through and rain pouring off my cap in front of my eyes but I was out then and in to the run. It was impossible to avoid all the puddles so a few more minutes and my feet were drenched, the run was a simple session of 6miles steady with 5x90seconds flat out with 90seconds jogging in between. I did a road loop and got a couple of extra soaks from passing cars, most of the run was 5:50-6:10 pace with the reps about 4:20-35 pace depending on whether I was going up, down or on the flat.

I am sure there were lots of other runners out training and I actually do think about that as I head out the door on bad days, I always think 'Wicksy' will be out there or the top guys so I need to just get on with it. I also think about runners who won't go out in it and I could be getting a bit of advantage on, I am sure there are those who will have just done an easy run or even bagged the run and stayed in.

I am not enjoying the tour this year, it is normally a great time to train just watching the cycling and then going out for a run but seeing the great man (Lance) struggling is horrible to watch, riders that are not even fit to lace his shoes are beating him and I just hope he will win a stage. I hope Matt Janes made it up the mountain this morning ok having gone out for a few days, I did look out for him on the mountain side but he was still probably cycling up it!

Lance At His Best!!

Will post up last weeks training but so far so good, I have entered the Stretford 5k organised by Dave Norman so another trip 'up north', I have heard the track is quick and looking at the field already it should be a great race and with a few RunnersLife guys in there too.

Also thinking about doing the 3k Welsh Champs a few days later so if any of the welsh lads are reading this can you tell me if your running or is it a waste of time going over to do it?

Cheers

Simx

Comments On "Running In The Rain"

To all the negative comments here - i'm not even going to comment on the drugs references and whether he was clean or not - but you try riding round the TdF route, especially the heat and course this year (i know cos i was there) and then do that when you're 38yrs old!!!

I think he can be forgiven for his performance this year, which was of a 38yr old and plagued by bad luck early on. After that he cruised round saving himself for his (unsuccessful) bid for the stage win. Yes i was gutted he didnt win a stage, yes i was gutted he didnt podium overall....but a fair effort and some good work for Livestrong.

A clean Armstrong is a very poor Armstrong. He had to do it, to prove to himself he could finish the tour clean. What a scam!!!!!
