Plugging!!

In regards to Phil blatant plugging of some kids 'pop' when I'm tired I always reach for a nice bottle of Lucozade! That said it has never made me want to do the lawns or even read the Old Testament let alone write it again so maybe this monster drink is the good stuff....lets hope they don't test him after the Manchester 10k.

So the week has ended and as Chelsea batter the life out of Arsenals flailing season (don't worry arsenal fans you have good youngsters! Well you have done for 5years) I am drinking tea and eating a Choco Leibnz biscuit sending another weeks files to nick to give his thoughts.....it usually comes back "run faster". I am sleeping a lot which is a sign I am training hard though but for me when I have trouble sleeping is when I am probably over doing it so I am not too worried.

Other news this week I read a copy of  'Athletics Weekly' which Sp8y left here, I don't buy it anymore as I think it's a bit over priced for about 10 pages of pretty much the same stuff and 100 pages of results from school races to mountain hikes!.... And the fact I am sick of seeing Wicsky's face in there. Any way I thought they didn't really give Andi Jones much encouragement after a great run in London instead banging on about getting people off treadmills and on the roads, I put it down after a few lines anyway but why didn't they just do a nice article saying 'well done' to the guy who I think could go even faster .....Especially if London would help the guy out by maybe giving him a few pace makers like they do for every other foreign athlete in the race. Surely they could find a couple of guys to run the 67 half way points he wanted (ring Phil Sly, he would do it!).

On the Marathon subject I am going to throw my 2 cents worth in on this feeling of the British Women are much better than the British guys. I see it like this...The top class women run about 2hrs 18min - 20mins (yes Paula ran 2.15 but who else gets near that!) and the qualifying times for them seem to be about 2hrs 35mins. Now on the guys they are running say 2hrs 5mins and the qualifying is around 2hrs 13mins, so the women have an extra 17mins where the men only get 8mins. I hope this makes sense in writing because in my head that seems like the women basically have an easier job to achieve the qualifying time. I couldn't care less if they have an easier time to get but what I am saying is don't then give it the 'women are better than the guys' because if the guys had 17mins I could even get the time!!

Hi Ian,

Dont get sp8y started on Men Vs Women...although one good point he always makes is that if your a good lady there are always half decent guys to train with, but if your a good guy then its hard to find good training groups!

I just want to say im not knocking women just making the point that I think the whole 'British distance women are better than the men' thing is not a fair reflection.

Cheers

London marathon qualifying times

Simon, Interesting point you raise re the ladies having an easier qualifying time. It doesn't get any better at the older end of the scale either, as a 55 year old man needs to run sub 3:15 for a good-for-age entry whereas a lady can get in with a sub 4:15.

Afternoon Midlander,

Well midlands is out now sharpy has knocked it on the head!

If I was to move (having just signed the papers for a new house 3 miles down the road it wont be for a few years) It would probably be London, Birmingham, or Leeds due to girlfriends job but it would be great to join the set up with Sharpy and co.

Hopefully I can crack on down here with the odd trip (to break the monotiny up) to join in with different people but also I will try to link up with Thie, Davies etc.. a bit more if possible on the track.

Cheers

Training partners to boost motivation and performance!

Simx
You seem to have enjoyed a better and tougher week thanks to your training partners pushing you harder!
Think you should consider moving to an area where you have plenty of access to similar level runners as its proven that training in larger groups brings out the best in runners.
Consider either Loughborough (Gandys gang and Ryan Mcleod)or Birmingham area (Phil Nicholls, Goolab,Sharpy, Phil Hinch etc).Plenty of canal towpaths to replace the dunes and hills of South Wales eh?
