The Week That Was
Simon Lawson..
So Simon Lawson hung up his spikes at the ripe old age of...20! Well he always said he wouldn't be doing it forever but even I thought he would carry on for a little while longer. I got a txt telling me his decision which I suppose was a little surprising and a little disappointing having thought we could link up well if we ever recovered from our injuries. Some people didn't like Simon, probably because he spoke his mind and some people don't always want to hear the truth and of course he was a guy after my own heart with his straight talking ways, if he didn't agree with something. Good Luck to him and I hope that he can keep himself fit enough to help me on the odd training run!
Goolab....
Winning the National cross country again was impressive, he is a very nice guy and is always smiling and I think I played my part in his win being the acting Team Manager on the day. I even had to help him dress after the race as he talked to Sharpy on the phone, whilst he shivered trying to tell the big guy he had just won. He now moves up to Senior and will be my enemy during races!
Relays....
The emails and messages are starting to get the Belgrave Team spirit together and I am a big fan but this might be the first year since joining Belgrave Harriers where I will have to give them a miss. I am trying my best to get fit enough but it might come just a little too soon. I will definitely be out for the South Relays and at this time it is probably 80/20 that I wont be at the National Relays. I will still make the effort to get up to Sutton Park to cheer the team on and with a few of the guys struggling it might be a late fitness test for a few of them in the week leading up to the race?
Recovery...
I am still improving but it is a very slow process. I have renewed my "Bridge" card for another month and will have to spend more time in the swimming pool. I am up to 3/4 runs a week but do all sessions and tough workouts on the bike or by aqua jogging. I am hoping that by the end of the month I can get up to 6/7 runs and maybe a few steady/tempo runs. The time just seems to be flying by though and the races are coming and going at a rapid pace since I have been out. I am staying positive though and maybe the break will be turn out to be a good thing.
Andy Doel
Just a little thanks to Andy who has been joining me on training runs and doing whatever I have planned including trudging though mud, through water hanging on to trees and other crazy new routes I keep trying to find whilst I am injured. I always like to find new routes and I am taking the opportunity to try and find loops, paths, fields, to do when I am back fit, as I do have a scheduled 45mins steady etc... We have found some new little places to go but also some that we/I won't be using anytime soon!! On the latest route we had to turn back and I even dirtied me trainers.....ARGHHHH!
