Always one!

I run for Neath second claim (well I did! Haha), I get on well with all the runners down there as they are really nice guys, but in every bunch of apples there's always one bad one.

The back story before I show you an email I got on Wednesday morning is this....

The training group I train with who all with Swansea Harriers all live closer to Neath track so as George (my coach as well as others in the group) was away for 3 weeks getting a tan we all find it easier to get to Neath track which is just off the M4 rather than through a load of traffic so for this little period we thought we would go there.

Now from 6pm-7pm Neath rugby team pay for the booking of the track and then the Harriers have it booked from 7pm-8pm, we all meet at 5.30pm so we are away before 7pm so if anyone should have a problem then it's the rugby guys....and they don't! So one grumpy guy, you know the type I mean...like running is the only thing in life and is only happy if he is in charge, well he wants paying (even though we are not on his track time) to keep the peace we pay a reduced fee of £25 for the group but the next week when there are hardly any of us he wants the same money. Now before people say just pay, all the guys agreed it was his attitude we didn't like and the way he was so I was happy to not pay. I will say it again....its not his track time!

This Tuesday we were down and off again before 7pm and a couple of the guys from the group know the rugby guys like old Welsh International, Arwyl Thomas. Also this week the Harriers were not even using the track at 7pm because they went on the road instead, but this one 'Hitler' came in (not sure why, probably wanted his money to pay his water bill or something). Now you would think he would say something, no he waited till he was behind his computer the next day instead, what was funny is he even admits it's not even his track time to charge us. Also he says the runners are really mad with us but I ran with one the next morning who said he didn't mid at all and another emailed who didn't have a problem so as Oasis once sang..... "I can smell a liar"

Simon,

Yet again your group failed to pay for last night's training. This is the last straw and we will be making an official complaint to the track management, we have already contacted them verbally. Although, technically, you are not using our hour all our athletes are insensed that they pay £3 wheras your lot get off scott free. They all pay in the dressing room before training and it would not have taken much for your group, changing just a couple of doors away, to do the same. Anyway we are not going to let this go, if the local management do not take action we will be writing to the head office.

Brian Blandford

Swansea next week then lads! hehe

Dog in a Manger

Brian Blandford has embarrassed himself and embarrased Neath Harriers.

His email was antagonistic and he is acting well beyond any remit he may have in any capacity. I trust that Neath Harriers will deal with his inappropriate actions in the proper manner.

It is not Simon’s “group” and it consists of good runners including a number of current Welsh international athletes who are well capable of making their own decisions.

Where the “group” train and at what time they train has nothing whatsoever to do with Brian Blandford and/or Neath Harriers, providing it does not encroach upon or effect Neath Harriers.

Brain Blandford claims that the “group” failed to pay for their training. Incorrect on Count No1 that the “group” were not training during any time allocated to and booked by Neath Harriers. Incorrect on Count No2 as Brian Blandford is not aware of any agreement the “group” has with Neath Rugby Club whilst they train during the time allocated to and booked by Neath Rugby Club.

Brian Blandford accepts in his email that the “group” were not using any time on the track booked by Neath Harriers. The verbal complaint and any official complaint made by Brian Blandford and/or Neath Harriers has no foundation and is a perfect example of Aesop’s fable, “Dog in a Manger.”

For those who are not familiar with the fable it is concerning a dog that one afternoon lay down to sleep in the manger. On being awoken, he ferociously kept the cattle in the farm from eating the hay on which he chose to sleep, even though he was unable to eat it himself, leading an ox to mutter the moral of the fable:

“People often begrudge others what they cannot enjoy themselves.”

The phrase is proverbial referring to people who spitefully prevent others from having something that they themselves have no use for.

Brian Blandford and/or Neath Harriers is/are interfering in something, which is absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with him/them.

Brian Blandford and/or Neath Harriers need to mind their own business!

Camelot rip off National Lottery

Bit Aggresive there David Rees Calm yourself man!

I blame the f'ing government, when the lottery was first introduced there was going to be massive spending on sports centres, arts etc due the money the lotto would generate. I was expecting to see swimming pools, tennis courts, running tracks, community centres, acting schools all constructed in the years following the introduction of the lotto.

Guess what, haven't seen piss all. All the directors of Camelot make a f'ing mint and nothing gets spent on new facilities.

If they built a running track in each town we wouldn't have to deal with these issues.

The place where I live albeit very nice, has hardly any sporting facilities.

The pool I use for swimming has very limited lane swimming times due to all the swim clubs etc that use the place.

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO GO ROUND UPSETTING PEOPLE ALL THE TIME SIMON.

GET ON WITH YOUR RUNNING AND PAY UP LIKE A GOOD BOY.

YOU'VE OBVIOUSLY GOT A BIG CHIP ON YOUR SHOULDER AND THATS WHY YOU UPSET EVERYONE.

YOU ARE NOTHING SPECIAL - JUST SOMEONE WHO THINKS THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO HAVE RUNNING EARN THEM A LIVING.

IN NATIONAL COMPETITION YOU WOULDN'T FINISH IN THE TOP 20.

YOU PROBABLY WONT PUT THIS ON YOUR WEBSITE BUT YOU KNOW ITS THE TRUTH - HOW ABOUT AN ANSWER?

Jonesy Posted on November 30th, 2009

Words of wisdom Mr. Richards, spoken like a true professional. I shall get the swansea forms ready for you:D

David Rees Posted on November 28th, 2009

al of the above

i dont believe it so much response to getting away with paying to run round in circles i would if i could as my council tax bill is 115 pounds a month to live in neath why dont you train at 4 oclock like the three little pigs and then the big bad wolf wont get you and the staff in the centre wont know as all they do is drink tea happy days what do you all think about jordon walking out of the jungle now thats news hehe

paul richards Posted on November 28th, 2009

once upon a time

this is amazing so much response to running round in circles to save three pounds its now going to cost 3.50 to run round in circles in swansea waste the same in petrol get home later bed later etc etc lets just all be friends and pay the three pounds to run round in circles any way if you want to discuss something interesting have a look at simon lawsons article in guest runner spot the guy is either going to be brilliant or sectioned people thought i was mad running to work at 2.30 am but this guy is something else

paul richards Posted on November 28th, 2009

Yeah lets boycott em and have our own relays on there sim:D I will pay to use the track and have no problem with that, but there are ways of going about things, sadly some people lack manners and they cost nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David Rees Posted on November 28th, 2009

The fact that he threatens to contact "head office" suggests that he had nothing to do with the charging for the track. If it is run be Neath Harriers then perhaps he has a basis to charge, but my reading of it is that he has absolutely nothing to do with the running of the track. Thus it is rather like me going up to someone in a shop and demanding payment for goods that were not mine to sell. The problem is that I can just see the sort of attitude that this guy has- thinks he's a bit special, but actually more a case of the green eyed monster.

James Posted on November 27th, 2009

I dunno, if the money goes towards things such as the clubhouse and maintainance of the track then I think everybody who uses the track should pay for it. I know you do not inconvenience anybody at all, it just makes it annoying for those who do pay, what is the point in Neath harriers even booking the track at all when they could just sneak on when somebody else had paid for it? I know I would feel guilty if I did that at Swansea's track for example, but I suppose I would make an effort to pay even if nobody hassled me for money, maybe im just a mug lol

Matt Posted on November 27th, 2009

I have no idea what he does with the money! thats not the point im making. Im saying a guy is asking me for the track money when he is not the one paying for the track at the time I am using it.

I will try again....if I go to the track at 2pm when the local school athletics team is on there and they have paid the track cost (just making this up) would he (and you by the sounds of it) feel the need to leave work, come over and ask me for track money? No you wouldnt because I am nothing to do with your team and you havnt paid for the track use, you wouldnt even know I used it, like I do in Swansea sometimes after work.

Just because you see us, he (and you) feel the need to ask me for money when you never paid for the track time I just used.

Shall we give the Xmas relays a miss this year Dai? hehe

simx Posted on November 27th, 2009

What is he doing with the money though? What does it get put towards?

Matt Posted on November 27th, 2009

Lee pays much less for her phone and gets more minutes than I do....do I feel annoyed by this, no. In life someone is always getting better deals like people buying houses at their peak while I bought mine in the recession....does that bother you as well?! (of course it doesnt)

If you dont think it's even that expensive why make such a fuss over us paying then or just turn up earlier like we do and use it when rugby team pays...this just seems logical to me.

The guy has no right to charge us when its not his track time - fact.

simx

Simx Posted on November 27th, 2009

Yes I know what you both mean but come on, its not expensive, surely it isnt too much to ask for you to pay. People are paying for the track, and others are getting the same chance to use it, but dont pay a penny. I know that it doesnt make a difference to Neath's training, but if people use the track and dont pay, the people who do pay will resent having to do so. Didgy your point about the film could be altered, it is more like 5 people paying for something on box office and then another 10 people coming to watch it without chipping in. It doesnt make a difference because it has already been paid for, but the ones who did pay will feel slightly hard done by. Thats my point, I cant believe nobody agrees with it.

Perhaps my last comment was too far, just angered me the way you described Brian. I dont know what his attitude was like, but saying he is 'Hitler'...come on

Matt Posted on November 27th, 2009

Dai Rees, didgy58....I have changed my mind. After Matts and 'guest' blog I now realise we were in the wrong. Neath Rugby team pay for the track so we should pay Neath Harriers!! (if that makes sense to anyone I'll give you the £3!) hehe

I wont hold out for a response Matt, as you find my blogs so disgusting im sure you wont read it again.....come on, of course you will!

simx

Matt Posted on November 27th, 2009

the thing is if you read the track time is already being paid for by the rugby guys, now if im wrong then tell me but dont they just get charged one set amount and not depending on if 20 people turn up to train, then if this is the case the track is paid for so if the rugby guys dont mind that these people use the track on their paid time whats the trouble? track is paid for and everyone is happy apart from this one gentleman, what if simon and the runners turned round and said im part of the rugby team and the rugby team backed them up on this saying yes they play with us? it seems like a bit of a weird one really as the time is being paid for and the rugby guys dont mind them using it, i mean i dont higher a film and get asked how many people are going to watch it as each of them will have to pay, ive paid for the film for that night so if i want to watch it with 50 people or just 2 is completely irrelevant really.

didgy58 Posted on November 27th, 2009

I cant believe people have a problem with somebody collecting money, why do you think you should be allowed to train for free? This would definately happen if a large group of non swansea runners trained at your track, I know for a fact they can be picky about money, and charge more also?

Guest Posted on November 27th, 2009

Butt out sunshine, i run with the group on the tues and his attitude stinks. We are no bother whatsoever to his teams training times. If he wants to report us then go for it. Perhaps he should focus more on training his own group instead of worrying about ours!!!!!!! The guy knows nothing, thats why i joined swansea!!!!!

David Rees Posted on November 27th, 2009

Who cares?

Wow great blog, you use a track and dont pay for it and expect people to be on your side? If somebody doesnt make sure people pay for the track then nobody will ever pay for it. I find it disgusting the way you have singled out somebody who has done alot for runners, coached, given encouragement, and portrayed him as someone who only cares about money and not the running. Swansea track/Neath track/Cardiff track, you make it sound like its an honour for clubs to have you train at their track, I think people can see that its not the people who run the clubs who have the problem, its you.
