Tale of Two Vests

So after taking what I thought was the bronze medal at the Welsh Championships I was told I was DQ because I had not worn my club vest...I sort of expected this having run at Atlantic College earlier in the year with a RunnersLife vest on instead of a club vest. O well, for me it was more important to wear the Saucony vest especially as it was on S4C last night and will be on Channel 4 in a couple of weeks, so at this point I was not really bothered.

That was until I was told Simon Lawson would be able to collect his gold medal even though he didnt have his club vest on! Now before all the people start telling me how great Simon is and how rubbish I am I would like to point out I am a fan of Simon and might even be linking up in the near future, this is more a confused outlook shall we say on one rule for one and then a different one for someone else...is it because I have had run in's before, is it because I am with an English club?? who knows but the rule is a joke! I asked the top guy at welsh athletics who then told me as the T-Shirt he wore was blue (same colour as Cardiff main colour) it was not a problem, I said well if I run in a Roma football top thats the same colour as Belgrave is that ok? "of course not" so then its not about colour then is it! I also said well if he can wear anything blue he could wear a Chelsea shirt "of course not" so it's not the colour then surely...."Why can't you just wear the club vest"...to which I responded "Why can't Simon". I was like a one armed swimmer (circles incase you dont get my drift) so I just went home with my National Silver from yesterday instead!

I really don't make this stuff up as hard as it is to believe!

Quick word on Michael Johnson 'the machine' who ran a cracking race for second and was catching Simon towards the end and a great pb even though he took a couple of wrong turns on the way. Also thanks to Rob Samuel who offered me his bronze Welsh medal, which I refused but appreciated the offer. Wales seems to be getting some depth again with us four along with Jon wills, Matt Janes, Chris Davies etc,.

WA

Simon, the problem you have with WA is when they say 'Jump', you say 'Why' rather than 'How high'? and they don't like it.

I don't see how the t-shirt worn by the winner could be classed as a club vest, it will be interesting to see how many runners adopt coloured t-shirts rather than club vests at the next gwent league!

Well done on getting back to near your form in the half marathon, plenty more to come I'm sure.

I'm assuming that "Guest" is Michael Johnson, exemplary sportsmanship and well done on turning up at a slippery and wet Parkrun the following Saturday and still giving it a good go.

A Tale of two vests

Unfortunately we only have a half a story, which is usual for Simon. Simon Jones didn't even have a timing chip in his shoe, thereby disqualifying him not only from the Welsh Championship but also the race itself.Bachgen twp!

Tale of two vests

A note on the vest saga:

The Cardiff AAC constitution states that "The colours of the Club shall be a blue vest (with or without red and white side stripes)"

http://www.cardiffaac.org/files/Web%20page%20-%20About%20the%20Club%20-%20Constitution.pdf

The word "vest" strictly refers to an undergarment worn against the skin, and does not have to be sleeveless. As such, Simon Lawson complied with the UK Athletics rules on clothing for championship competitions (albeit more by luck than by intention).

Rules aside, the decision of whether Simon should have been awarded the championship should be made by the person who crossed the line second...namely me. I volunteered to Welsh athletics officials that I was aware of the possible rule infringement but wanted the best athlete on the day to be awarded the title.

Hello Mr Jones.

I am a disgruntled reader of your website because it is updated with such irregularity. Some training logs are a couple of months out of date, blogs are added sporadically and without any insightful comment, and to be honest with you the updating of information is extremely poor.

I have been an avid reader and advocate of this website for some time - i used to enjoy the videos, pictures and insightful blogs which accompanied the site, but i feel that i must be true to myself and let you know that i believe it has gone somewhat down hill.

I reckon you (and the other runnerslifer's) should either commit to it and get more regular updates on the site, or shut it down. I mean where is the race video from your race last weekend.

Never thought i would hear myself saying this but at present the website is a disgrace. SORT IT OUT.

Still love you though, keep up the good work.
