Race week
Had a good time at captain sharps house over the weekend and was mixed bag watching the cross trials. Goolab had a great race and was very happy for him, but in the senior race I felt for good mate Phil Wicks who didn't perform the way he knows (and I know) that he can, but that happens in running and he will be back....stronger. Also very good mate Mark Pollard struggled and is not having the best winter, he has the talent in there and I'm sure it is just a matter of time before it clicks, with the relays on the horizon he will pull it out of the bag for his team.
For me personally I have now finished the 'hard work' there were a few times over the last 7 weeks (1 recovery week) where I was close to breaking point and had to be careful but if you run hard Monday morning, Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday, Thursday night, Saturday morning, Sunday morning then of course it is going to be hard and doing session was like running with lead in my legs. With help from Nick Morgan I managed to avoid any real problems though and its time to crank up the speed for some races now!
So after Monday morning off I ran only 8 miles with 6miles at 5:30 which compared to normal Mondays was pretty easy. Then Tuesday night I went to the track to see what I have in the tank, session was :-
1k hard / 800m easy x 3 - 60 to 75secs recovery.
2:44...2:22...2:44....2:21...2:45...2.23
Went down to Swansea and warmed up with the boys, I worked my session around them so my kilometres were on my own and I jumped in the 800m efforts with them. Felt strong and good through the reps. With a race on Sunday you don't want p push it to hard and felt after the 3rd 'K' I could do more if I had to, but nice to know its there especially as its probably still early days after only a couple of easy days.
It was very disappointing to cancel the race series but after 8months of working with slow, uncooperative, lazy, slack, people with more red tape than an opening for a new Tesco I am glad that I don't have to deal with it anymore.
