Tough days

So after all the mud at Hillingdon (south cross country) I had the long run on the Sunday morning which I broke up into parts by joining in with a local race. I met a few guys including the Hobbs brothers at the race car park at 9.30am which is near to Margam, we ran a 9mile loop around the mountain which took in a really long nasty climb lasting a good 20minutes but went at a comfortable pace. When we got back to the car park we had around 10minutes to get to the car, change a bit of kit and then get to the start line which we just about made and then joined in a 5.5mile (approx) race around a lake.

In the race I went off fast-ish to get away from the crowds then settled back and dropped into a little group about 20^th, by 2miles and after a few people dropped back I was just running behind one guy and making sure I didn't go to fast or get involved with the 'race'. The boys had already gone near the front and I couldn't see them but looking across the Lake it looked like Martin Rees was leading but the group wasn't to far away. By the time I crossed the line in about 14^th place I was a bit behind eventual winner Marc Hobbs with Martin taking second. So I made up with other 4miles making 18miles easy in 2hours10minutes.

Monday was 2 steady runs with the old 10mile steady at night, I felt better than I would and clocked just over 54minutes and feeling strong second half where I thought I would struggle.

Thankfully Tuesday was an easy morning run after a few tough days and was joined my regular easy run partner Andy Doel. Had a nice chat, enjoyed a rainbow over the beach and discussed the on going bet (£5 says Liverpool finish higher in Premiership than his Swansea Jacks in the Championship!). Chris Higgs was at Neath Track to join me for a smaller session of just 12 x 200m with every other one being comfortable:-

28s/32s - 28s/32s - 28s/31s - 28s/31s - 28s/31s - 28s/31s......alternate 1min/2min recoveries.

Happy with the times and felt good, training is starting to move along nicely now and hope the rest of the week goes as well.
