South Road Relays

Ah well, what can I say. Not sure where to start really, not even sure if it was a good or bad run actually. I am a fan of the relays and think it's a great time to be part of a team for the day and think all the team managers enjoy trying to concoct the best team at their disposal for that particular day.

So the team was made at the start of the week after a few guys were unable to attend and after saying I won't run after some bad weeks when I got a call asking for my services I said yes straight away although the boss new the situation. The team was Neil Speaight (roomy), James Kelly, Steve Sharp, Nick Goolab, Me, and Phil Wicks. On the warm up again I wasn't really sure if I was in good form or not. I had a chat with a few guys like Ben Whitby, Matt Janes, Matt Whiting while I waited the couple of hours for my leg and then disappeared about 45minutes before to be on my own. As I listened to a play list on the itouch I did my strides and felt a lot better than when I did them in the week so that was good. When I got into the pen to wait for Goolab as was nervous which was good and I went it quite hard but was feeling the pinch in the legs early doors so tried to push it as hard as I could without going in to the red!

On a couple of the little climbs I really suffered which is clear the legs weren't there, I lost about 30seconds in the end to Ben Moreau but ran 'Solid' even though Bill said 'I never look like I am trying"....I was! Ha-ha.

I could hear a fair few shouts but didn't really see anyone with my eyes focused on the floor, I gave what I had in the last 'k' an crossed the line in 18mins 47seconds, 5th fastest on the team although Dan Mulhare went faster in the 'B' team on first leg.

So as I said at the start I am still not sure whether to be happy or sad!? I am probably suffering my lowest ever confidence for a fair few years, I didn't run last week and had a cold until Thursday but at the same time it is about 30seconds slower than 2 years ago when I ran here! A great team effort from guys not in good form (bar wicks) who got another silver medal in a very competitive relay.

Drop jones to the b team now, average as always. Hes been carried by his belgrave team mates for a while now. I agree with you saucony, average joe is spot on.

'Saucony' It will be up to Saucony when the contracts come around again, some people seem fixated with my deal with them for some reason....and its not even as much as Ben gets!! luckily they helped with my deposit for the new house but I saw Ben driving a merc after the relays which has 'Saucony' written on the doors.

Thanks for the support guys, I dont really mind constructive 'abuse' hehe, you have to except it if you put yourself on a website appreciate you taking the time to support me though.

Im actually really fed up of all these digs at the RL team, first digging at Nicholls constantly now Jones? What's a matter with you? Honestly? I understand constructive critisismn but this is juts bang out of order. Simon and the others work their nuts off to try and be the best that they can be, show some respect. If not, stick some trainers on and go race against them?

stay positive simon. It seems alot of people are struggling at this time of the year! ...and well done for offering to help the team when you were needed.

Simon, not meant as a dig like, but do you think you justify being sponsored by Saucony when you are such an average joe runner? I don't.
