Trainingsession 2nd May - 8th May

M- Lunchtime run of 6 miles on the river in Chester.  I attended the Chester Marathon training morning event which seemed to be a great success. Run route and date here.  Evening run.  Did my run as part of Donnas warm up and warm down.  I then did a few miles on my own when Donna did a track session on Saddleworths cinder track.  Run route and data here.
T- First track race for a long time.  2 mile warm up, 3k race at Stretford, 6.5 mile warm down.  Good session really.  Wanted to run 8.30 which I put as my target time on the entry form and ended up up with 8.32.  I intend to do more of these 3ks over the coming months so will hopefully get my time down and who knows, I might even beat my PB of 8.19!!!! (10.5 miles total)
W- Steady run from Sale Harriers.  Was supposed to be meeting Josh for a run but I was late and missed him by a few minutes.  I had to call at the Next store to get Kadi a dress for weekend and ended up making myself late.  Sorry Josh.  Did 10.03 miles and kept it steady.  Could feel that I had raced the previous night.  I like double days and miss my morning run which I think helps clear my legs out ready for the run later in the day.  But at the moment no double days. T- Wow, Rain!!!  And we needed some. Lovely 10 mile run on the moors behind our house.  Hit the run hard and maintained a good pace even though there were some good climbs. Run route and data here.
F- Steady 6 mile run in the afternoon.  Felt very hot this afternoon. Run route and data here.
S- Session in Heaton Park. 2.5 mile warm up, 5 x 1mile with 2 mins recovery. 2.5 miles warm down.  Felt good doing my reps.  Seemed to be a lot of pollen in the air which doesn't usually affect me but today I could smell. taste and struglle with it.  Reps were all in good times and consistent. Drove to Sale's track to meet Donna and di another 2 mile warm down with her.
S- Calderdale Way Relays.  Having being cancelled in December due to snow and ice the race got put back on today.  Leg 4 as usual with team mate Carl Hardman.  Set off in fifth and came back second.  Had no chance of catching Calder Valley as they wee so far ahead of us at the change over.  Team finished 2nd overall.  Run route and data here for the race. Did about 10 miles with the little bit of jogging before and after the race.  Afternoon run with Donna on the moors at home.  Felt tired but needed to do a few miles.  Run route and data here.

Weekly total- 78.53 miles.

Good weeks training with two races in it.  Was good to be back on the track racing.  It felt strange and hard, but if it was easy everyone would do it.

Dropped the mileage a little to help try and increase my speeds sessions. Hopefully it will help ready for when I start double days again.

why have you dropped the doubles?

is it to focus on a certain aspect of your training or just down to other commitments?
