Trainingsession Training 16th May - 22nd May

M- 10 Mile PM.  Ran from Sale Harriers round the water park.
T-  10 mile PM on the moors from home.  Felt good and enjoyed being off road all alone.
W- Track session.  2 mile warm up, 12 x 400m off 30 secs, 3 mile warm down.  (8 mile total)
T- 10.10 mile PM with Carl Hardman.  Ran to Dovestones and back.  Was a good run.
F- 6 mile run PM.
S- Session in Heaton Park.  Big lap of the park followed by 2 x 1mile.  First effort was 2.2 mile.  Warm up 2.3 mile and warm down 3.2 mile.  (9.2 mile)  Felt good on my session.  Was pleased with the first effort and the times for the mile reps. One of the timex linked files should be the first rep data.
S- Steady Sunday run.  Set off at 7.30 to get a few miles in before meeting Carl Hardman and Paul Green.  Mainly off road with some good climbs in it.  One of the Timex linked files should show the route and run data. 17.78 miles.  Lost signal at one stage early on, not sure if this was due to the massive storm I was running in!!  More likely just over 18 miles.

Weekly total- 71.08 miles.

Another pleasing weeks training.  Feeling better each week and the speed is slowly coming.  I wont ever be the quickest runner but at least these old legs are getting some speed in them.  Wanted to hit a good week and make sure my Sunday run had some climbs in it ready for the inter county fell championships next Saturday.

Hill session

I rarely do a specific hill session. The one we do is a long hill in Heaton Park (2 mins running) followed by a 1k loop on the flat. I do this up to six times in a session. I tend to attack hills on my steady run, so yesterday on my long run I aimed to run a hilly route and hit the climbs hard and then ran steady on the flat and downhill sections.
I tend to do some fartlek within my runs as I tend to be crossing stiles and gates often so have to slow down and then pick it up again.

Hill work session advice

Hey Andi
For an average xc club runner would you say that a once weekly hill session of either 10-x300 or 20 x 200m with jog down recovery is adeqate?
Also add in the odd fartlek over mixed terrain to build leg strength on the hills.
