Trainingsession Training 30th May - 6th June

This week was to be the week of increased mileage and three good sessions, but I started with a cold following a night out on Sunday. Thought it was from the air conditioning in the bar we were in that was making my mouth feel dry but as we got through Monday and in to Tuesday it was clear I had picked a cold up. Strange considering the great warm weather we were having. So we changed a few things round, cut a few runs down and missed the Saturday session and just did a run. Hopefully the cold is now going and I am feeling better and looking forward to next weeks big mileage combined with a return to work.

M- Decided to do the Sale 5 mile race at 8.50am when we got up. Think Jason Ward was surprized I was going to go and do it when we got up as we were still eating take away at 2am on our way back from Manchester. Warm up, 5 mile race in 24.34. Not a quick course. Very similar to course used for the Northern 12 stage. Three nasty hair pin tunrs but Sale put a great race on considering the constraints they work in within the park. Warm down. (10 mile) Evening run back down at Wythenshawe Park as Donna trains there. Did a nice steady 10 mile. Total for the day- 20 mile. Felt like I had a cold all day.
T- 5 mile am, 10 mile pm. Did the 10 mile off road on Hobson Moor. Cold still there.
W- 5 mile am, 12 mile pm.
T- 10 mile. Should have been a 14 mile hard run but after speaking to my coach we decided to cut it down. Ended up doing more than he said as I went a little too far on my loop.
F- 6 mile am. Cut the evening 6 mile out as the cold was still hanging about.
S- No session. Should have been back on the mile loop but was told not to bother. Did 9 mile run round Heaton Park instead. No evening run. Feeling much better on my run but still struggling to cough.
S- Feeling much better. Did 19 miles on the canal, roads and low fells. Ended up going round all three resers at Dovestones after a good run up the canal to Diggle and back home via the Roman Road.

Weekly total- 96 miles.
This week was supposed to see a return to over 100 miles. If it wasn't for the cold this would have easily been done.
Next week will see the mileage increase again as at the back of my mind the marathon at the Europeans is getting closer!!!

Comments On "Training 30th May - 6th June"

Hi Rick,

Sorry for the slow reply. I thought I got an e-mail if someone responded to a blog or training I posted but I must have missed this one. Again, sorry.
I tend to have set routes I have trained on and ran for many years now so know where I should be by what time if I am fit. I always run with a watch on but do not have a garmin. I have on many times been tempted to buy a garmin just out of interest to see the pace I am running at and how far my runs really are. My coach thinks I under estimate my runs and many people have commented that I do like to run fast on steady runs. You can often tell if you are working hard by how you feel.
Who knows, I might buy a garmin one day but knowing me I would only race it and try and run faster and faster!

Cheers

Andi

training paces

Andi - Nice run in London. With your sessions and usual runs are you running from effort or closely monitoring pace? Garmin?
