Ambitions
It's been a little while since I last wrote something, mainly due to being busy but also due to the fact that it's not always easy to find something to write about. There is always training to talk about but that can get a bit tiresome sometimes.
So here goes an update on my training!
Since my last write up training has been going well. I have been doing some good sessions, many of them on my own but the odd one with a few people which was good. I have raced a few times recently. I was pleased with my run at the National XC Mud Bath Relays. I was looking for a little quicker but looking at the times posted that day I can't be too bothered by my time. It was good to be on a strong Salford Team and back (Just!) inside the top ten teams of the day. I believe this is where Salford Harriers should be but it doesn't always happen. The team is looking good with Joe Bailey running PBs week by week and Carl Hardman getting in shape. I am starting back on three sessions a week. This week saw me run on the track again for two weeks running. This is good for me because if I can find an excuse not to run on the track I will find it. I have been doing 400m reps this last two weeks to try and wake the legs up and reintroduce them to running fast. I feel strong at the moment and can run steady all day long but ask the legs for a bit quicker and they don't always seem to want to move. Hopefully over the next few weeks of training I have planned the speed will slowly come back. I did a road rep session this last week at Sports City where Sale Harriers hold their training. It was good to do one of these sessions having been to so many of them and never got involved.
I think running is going well at the moment and hopefully in the build up to Christmas things will continue to improve and I will be in good shape as I start to focus on my marathon training for the VLM 2012.
On Thursday evening I gave a short talk at our local high schools Sports Presentation Evening. I could talk about whatever I wanted to so took the opportunity to talk about ambitions. I believe we all have ambitions. I have ambitions. Whether these ambitions are running related, work related or life related, or maybe related to all three, I am sure they are highly important to us. I spoke about taking the opportunities we get presented with and living life to the full. I have been given many opportunities that I never dreamt I would have while at school. How different life would be if I hadn't done my first London Marathon as a youngster at college. Would I ever have got the running bug? Would I ever have met the friends I have made? Maybe I would never have met the wife! And I am sure I would never have travelled to some of the great places I have seen with running.
Remember, life is short, live it and live it well!

Hi Andi
John Davies Posted on November 21st, 2011I do a 2 hour S&C core drill gym session at least once a week to build strength and stamina.
With regard to ice baths I would advise after a tough session and the long run a 15 minute ice bath at approx 10 degress C. They are taken to prevent injuries. Many elites take them also.
Just an idea!!
I never mention any S&C work because to be truthful I do very little of it!
Andi Jones Posted on November 20th, 2011I do value it and do believe it has great benefit but do struggle to fit it in. I am trying to be more strict with myself and am looking at doing some weights and S&C work at school in our gym.
Ice baths, not in the uk! I have used a few while overseas, mainly big tubs filled with ice and cold water. Do think they do the world of good but havent got such a facility at home. I could fill the bath I suppose! What do your suggest? I would value your input on it John.

John Davies Posted on November 16th, 2011You never mention any strength and conditioning work- do you do any?
And before a session do you recommend stretching either before or after a session?
where do you fit in ice baths during your schedule?
Cheers and soory for lots of questions .
Really good to read your posts Andi! I completely agree with your last paragraph which gives a nice insight into your drive and makes it easy to see why you've done so well for so long.
Lee Posted on November 16th, 2011Good luck with the getting the speed back :)
