Rough & the smooth
Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's hard! But it's always enjoyable and surely that counts for a great deal?
Training is good, racing is good and all in all the whole sport of athletics is really enjoyable. But, every now and then you get dealt a duff hand and things don't go your way. You feel great, you are well up for the race but the legs don't seem to want to work. That was Saturday for me. I was totally prepared for the race, took an easy week and was looking forward to leading Salford Harriers to team medals. But what do you do when it goes wrong? You pull up your socks, get your head down and run. You keep running till you can run no more and you think about the others on the team who share that common goal of winning some team medals. There is nothing better tha winning a medal than winning team medals. And on Saturday even though I didn't have the run I wanted I still helped my team out and kept pushing myself.
There must be many times in life when this happens to people and I am sure it wont be the last time it happens to me. If it doesn't kill you it can only make you stronger.
Enjoy your running.
Andi

Guest Posted on February 1st, 2012Just be greatful you can get out there and compete because nothing is more frustrating with London coming as having injuries and needing to up the miles! Keep doing what you do
Paul Posted on January 31st, 2012Bad race days!
sometimes when I have a bad race it makes me realise that I am not as good as I think and this spurs me on to work harder to prove myself in the next race, and boost my confidence when the training goes well.
Joe Posted on January 31st, 2012My coach says even the greatest have setbacks- its part of the sport and we need to accept it, learn from it and move on with renewed energy, determination and commitment.
I've had as many races like that in the last few months as I've had hot dinners!
Dave Norman Posted on January 31st, 2012My advice to runners is always never to lose the enjoyment factor because if you aren't enjoying it, you don't stand much chance of running well.
You are one of the most consistent runners in the UK - everybody has the occasional bad race - but if every race was great, then we wouldn't appreciate our best races quite so much.
Keep up the good training and I'm sure you will get a big result in the one race that really matters!
