The New Year
Happy New Year everyone.
I was hoping to have this blog ready for New Years Day but things got busy and I ran out of time. Not sure why as I haven't done much really but time just slipped away.
A new year, an olympic year. Following a few people on twitter and it seems everyone has both eyes firmly on the fact it is an olympic year. An olympic year where they are being staged in our own country as well.
To end last year off I thought I would quickly review my last year of running.
I ran 4351.035 miles in the last 52 weeks. Thats makes for an average of 83.67 miles each week. Now some weeks were more than this and some much less. My smallest week was the week after the Berlin marathon where I ran 27 miles. My biggest week was week number 8 where I ran 132 miles. Lowest point of the year was accepting that I wasn't ready to run the London Marathon. High points, which I am glad to say there are more of than low points, are finishing 7th at the European Mountain Championships and winning the Snowdon Mountain race for a fifth time taking me to the biggest number of wins by anyone. My run at Berlin Marathon was pleasing and helped me to put the disappointment of the marathons in 2010 to bed and helped me prove to myself that I can run the marathon and now need to focus on the marathon I am aiming for in 2012. I have been happy in my running in 2011 and intend to continue this in to 2012.
So my aim for the next 16 weeks is the Virgin London Marathon. 22nd April, now only 111 days away and much work to do between now and then. I have some races in my build up which will be key races and a few races which I will do because it makes sense to do them and I can represent my club and help my club out in the team race. But apart from that it will be total focus on the training.
I seem to be over my cold which I had from before breaking up school for the Christmas holidays. It meant me missing the Ribble Valley 10k but I just wasn't ready to race following the cold. I am going to be running in the Greater Manchester XC Championships next Saturday at Woodbank Park which I am looking forward to.
Christmas was quiet as usual for us. A few house parties to go to but no big nights out on the beer.
Good luck to everyone in 2012 and in all your racing.
