Athleteprofile

Andi Jones first started running at the age of 18 by entering the London Marathon. With an aim of breaking 4 hours Andi ran 3 hours 58 minutes. From this race onwards Andi wanted to run faster and was encouraged to join the local running club East Cheshire Harriers after he finished first junior at the Tour of Tameside.

Things progressed under the coaching provided at ECH and Andi decided to move to Salford Harriers to enable him to run the national 6 and 12 stage relays. Andi linked up with his coach Bob Merrell who has coached Andi since joining Salford Harriers 10 years ago.

Andi progressed with his running and knocked his 10k time down to low 30 minutes before finally running 29.44 and breaking 30 minutes for the first time in the original Manchester 10k and in doing so winning the race. Andi has gone on to run 2.15.20 at the marathon and has represented Great Britain at road running, cross country and Mountain running.

In between the training and racing Andi is a full time teacher of Design & Technology at Falinge Park High School, Rochdale and a father to his daughter kadi-Leigh.
