Auld Lang Syne Fell Race

Last fell race of the year, well it had to be really.  Would be hard pressed to get another in seeing that this one starts at 11.30am on New Years Eve.  Race was tough.  Jonny Brownlee and I hit the front from early on and went away from the rest of the field.  I lead the race out up to the trig point where we turn to run back.  Down the moor I was just in front of Jonny so missed seeing him fall when we hit the track again, but with the sound of things he wasn't on the deck for long.  As we approached the steep downhill before the beck crossing I could see Jonny out of the corner of my eye he was that close.  Up the final big hill Jonny got a second gap on me and when back on the track at the top we were neck and neck.  Not knowing how fast Jonny was at finishing I decided I had to make my move and push for the win as I didn't fancy having to try and out sprint the World Junior Triathlon Champion in his own county.  So I made my move across the final stretch of moor before having to run back up Penistone Country Park car aprk to the finish.  As I finished just five seconds behind Jonny I could tell I had raced hard.
Details of the race, results and a write up can be found at this website.  www.woodentops.org.uk
