National Road Relays
Not a race I was looking forward to, but I enjoy the team races and was adiment I was going to be running. Sean Cordell is our team manager now and has been for the last year since I stepped down. Therefore he calls the shots and he decides leg order. This I fully respect and would never question his decission. He seems to have made a good call on Saturday with regards leg order. Good job Sean.
This was my first fast outting since the Berlin Marathon. I had raced the week before but nothing serious. This race was serious and was going to hurt. I can run all day but have no speed. So aiming to run a race of just less than 6k was not going to really suit me. Before the race I had been thinking about the time I would run and wanted to be around the time Carl Hardman run. It ended up we ran spot on the same time. 17.52. Not a great time and I am sure Carl would agree with this but considering his two weeks building up to the race and my recent marathon I think we both need to be happy. It was under 18 mins and I think I would have been a little pee'd off if I ran anything slower than 17.59.
I was impressed with the performance Salford Harriers put in on Saturday. The team is coming together and building in strength. Bailey led the way and ran a great time. Joe is upping his game now and running some very good times. I hope this continues for him and maybe he can even turn out some good XC races. I don't think he likes the mud!!!!
I set off chasing James Read (Alty) and Mike Aspinal (Tipton) I passed one lad early on and then just couldn't make any head way in to James and Mike. I must have pulled them back slightly but nothing close enough to gain contact with them. I was happy for my leg to be over.
The best part of the day was seeing the wife have an half decent leg. I say half decent and not great because I have to live with her and don't want her getting big headed!!! She ran great on first leg and came back third ion 14.28. This put her 11th fastest leg of the day so I had to wind her up for not making the top ten fastest times! I tell her she should think about aiming for a 10k but she doesn't seem keen!!!
Well done to everyone who ran and well done to Salford Harriers on completing two mens teams.
