Out with the old and in with the new

The dark nights and cold frosty mornings are now upon us. These conditions aren't ideal for running but they really sort out the difference between those who would rather sleep than become successful athletes!

5 weeks of solid and consistant training and i am slowly begining to get back into my normal routine. In my first week of running i found it was a case of getting the muscles used to 40 minutes of easy running while coping with the initial strains. After the first few days the aches and pains really did start to kick in. Most of the tension appeared in my quads. It was remarkable that after only a few weeks of not running how much muscle wastage had appeared. I am now running every day and looking forward to completing my first full weeks training, which will consist of 3 quality sessions.

Since the summer i have put on nearly a full stone! despite exercising nearly every day, not being able to run has caused me to build muscle from cycling so much. So its time to shed the pounds, get trim and work towards my first main goal. As well as continuing to build up the mileage and work on strength and conditioning, i will also be keeping a keen eye on getting my weight back to normal by resisting all those Xmas treats!

Not sure if i could get skinny if i tried but a bit lighter would help. Even though weight is a very important factor for all athletes, a good healthy balanced diet should be maintained especially during a heavy training period. I will still try my best to resist all the mince pies and xmas puddings! either that or just run an extra 5 miles every time i eat something bad!

A real runner

that a true sign of a real athlete- ban on xmas treats to become skinny again and light when running races in order to chase that important PB !!!
Sacrifices and pain win the day!
Keep up the motivation Bruce- even over xmas hols
