Portugal Week 1

Week 1 of our training camp has passed pretty fast & after 7 days of hard training i'm having a (well deserved?!?) rest day today.  A few others are also on a rest day so we are spending it by the pool & having physio!

Scottish Athletics have been running this camp in Monte Gordo for the last 4 years & this is my 3rd time here.  I think they have managed to find a place that suits the needs of all the event groups pretty well & deserve credit for providing the opportunity for both their elite & national squad athletes as well as any training partners to come & make the most of 2 uninterupted weeks of training like a full time athlete.

Personally i love being away on training camps & enjoy training like a full time athlete during the camp & making the most of the extra recovery time....i'm on my 3rd book so far!  This time around we have had the benefit of having 2 physiologists from the Scottish Institute of Sport as well as 2 physiotherapists & a massage therapist with us & i've made the most of some of the testing as well as seeing the physio & massage therapist to stay on top of things.  I have being doing all the sessions by myself but have had company on all the runs so far.

Sessions are just starting to be run at a bit of a faster pace & i have had spikes on for the 1st time this year.....i had forgotten just how different 800/1500m pace training makes you feel.

Off to make the most of my rest day...write soon.
