OCWK Race Birmingham GP

I took the last minute opportunity to race here & see how I coped running 2 consecutive days as it is a situation i will have to face at the Trials if i want to progress through the rounds.  I felt ok going into the race & didn't feel like the day before's race had to much of an effect on my legs but it was a different story when i actually started running.  I just felt flat the whole way through & even though my splits were very similar to the previous night it just felt like i was labouring almost from the start.  I ended up 2 tenths slower than the night before but was never really involved in the race.

Hi

Thanks, was pretty disappointed not to make the final especially with it being so close. Not really sure why i'm not performing well this year, i felt i had recovered well from the cold & had a few pretty decent sessions in the lead up, felt good in the heats & like there was much more still there but in the semi i just was back to feeling flat & tired.

Have yet to make a decision on where to go from here, i'm training normally this week & will make a decision from there.

Sorry to see you didn't get through to the final Claire...was it due to missed training from your SAAA cold...or do you think there were other factors involved?

Where do you go from here for the rest of the season???

Hi Claire...thanks for that...quantity/intensity always an issue when there has been illness....Personally I would still like to see you do the occasional 3K pace session at decent volume...I think maintaining this across the summer gives strength for running heats/semi/final at higher intensiity each successive day and gives much needed variation and aerobic support/recovery for the inevitably taxing race pace 800/1500 sessions...

Good luck for the rest of the season....

I imagine looking at my recent training sessions it does look a bit like that at the moment. We are currently walking the fine line between doing too much & too little, I think if i had been on the site longer you would see a slightly different approach to the one we are taking now. Having a look at my earlier season training weeks will give you a better idea of what volumes are normal for me. After a virus i picked up around the time of the Loughborough International we have had to cut back & modify things to let me recover properly.

I do think though that the fact i managed an almost identical time both days shows that my quantity is probably not really the problem right now.....

Seems to me from looking at your training sessions that you really don't do enough volume work to cope with back to backs...
