2012 Preview

Hello and thanks for reading

So as promised here is my preview of 2012

13th February: Fly to Kenya

14th Feb - 12th May: Run loads {Injury Free}

13th May: Fly to London

May - September: Race faster than last year

That's pretty much how I would like my 2012 season to go. I've got no expectations as of yet. I'm still injured, although I'm making great progress every day.

For a number of reason I want to make a plan, not a preview for this year. Firstly I think it's important to have a plan. If I don't have a goal in mind, training can become boring. Simply setting a date that I would like to be back running outside and not doing everything in the pool or on an Alter G { more on that in my next Blog} is important. It's no different than training really hard with a track race in mind later in the year. I don't train to become a better trainer, I train to race.

I'm not talking about specific races where I'm going to say what times I will run, I'm not that foolish. I have some modest ambitions regarding times I'd like to run this summer. The times will be relative to my condition at the time. Right now I don't know what condition I'll be in this summer. Hopefully I'll be in great shape, but I was hoping that last summer and it didn't materialise. So right now what keeps me training as I'm sure it keep you train is the thought of racing and running a personal best or winning a race or maybe qualifying for a certain race.

Last summer I had planned on running over 5000m as all my training was geared towards that distance. This summer I'll race over 5000m again, but will also try to race over 10,000m on the track. Having never raced over 10,000m before it's something I'm looking forward to and certainly something which does keep me going during the aqua jogging sessions.

As I wrote above I'm returning to the UK on the 13th May, as of now I don't know whether I'm going to stay in the UK or move back to Ireland. A lot of my plans will be dictated by the usually stuff, work and money. If I can find work and the money if sufficient to allow me to continue running and travelling to races I have no problem settling anywhere.

I wrote a blog about the Perfect Summer { www.runnerslife.co.uk/dan%20mulhare/blog/the-perfect-summer/932 } a few month ago, and I still think this would be the best way to spend the summer months, although I don't think it will happen, I'd love to try it out. Even if it was onlt for one year, so if there are any takers out there get in touch.

Returning on the 13th May, means I'll be in Europe for all the BMC/IMC races and British League mataches, so there shouldn't be any shortage of races for me to target, but thats for a later date.

Hopefully everything falls into place and my season goes according to the plan

Thanks for reading and the very best of luck with your 2012

Hi Dan,

Chris B, put me onto your Blog. You have the qualities that you need to achieve whatever you set your mind to.

I love that you are inspired by the simplicity and artform of running. Your maturity and development over the last year has been significant. I am reminded of some phenominal atheletes who went on to achieve great things despite/because of adversity. Paula Radcliffe, Kelly Holmes, Ron Hill, Murray Halberg, Billy Mills.....

Remain resilient and keep believing.

All the best

Jude

Hi Michael, thanks for reading and leaving a comment. I won't be running the indoors this year, unfortunately I'm still injured, but I did enjoy the weekend last year, and from what I hear this year should be a cracker.

Great read Dan
I see you will be heading off on the 13th of Feberuary so will you be doing the Irish Indoors on the 11th and 12th. Was an entertaining race last year!!

Hi, and thanks for reading everyone.

Good to see your back Niall, will catch you at IMC I'm sure.

Thanks Anna, I reckon all runners share very similar characteristics which might make us think very similarly. I'm lucky in that I don't have a young family or a mortgage to keep me grounded so trips like my Kenyan adventures, although cost me quite a lot, are possible.

Cheers

Brilliant reading (as always)

Hi Dan,
Great blog, as always. i love reading the happenings and your words alway give me food for thought. Its amazing how similar the mind of us athletes work. Im delighted to hear you are going to give Keyna another shot. Fingers crossed you'll return for the summer seasons achieving your goals and just enjoying racing injury free again. I wish i was a millionaire and could offer athletes the opportunity to train full time without the fear of where the next flight fair is going to come from. Alas, that is just a dream. Keep up the great work and keep us posted.
