AAI Games 3000m

Hello

So this race came about when John Travers got in touch with me and asked would I pace him to a decent 3km time a few weeks ago. I'm a big believer in athletes just getting on with it and making it happen for themselves and so when I heard that a guy just out of the junior ranks was willing to organize his own race to achieve a decent time I was more than happy to help.

In fairness to John he did a great job at promoting the race and got a great field together. The AAI then agreed to hold the race on the same day as the AAI Games which meant we could all run in the National stadium in front of a decent size crowd.

With the wind ranging from +3.9 to +4.8 throughout the day the times were never going to be fantastic, but I was still determined to help John out. The gun went and I hit the front with John tucked right in behind me, then a second gun and a third, false start. First time I was ever in a track race with a false start, the timing didn't start and so we wouldn't of had any official times.

Second time around I didn't get off to a good start and it took me about 200m to get to the front of the pack, from here I pushed the pace for all behind me to have an easier time shielded from the wind. I was starting to feel the effects of the wind after about 2km. Rory went past me with 700m to go and with John still behind me I pushed on for another 300m before I shouted for him to pass me.

I finished in 3rd, not overly worried about that or my time as I just wanted a good workout, which I achieved. Hopefully My next outing in Holland this coming Wednesday will be a far less windy affair and allow me to run a fast time.
