Open 3000m

First off a big thanks has to go out to Scottish athletics for adding this race to their National Champs.

I contacted Mark Pollard on Monday about the idea of getting all the top runners in Scotland into the 3km and having pacemakers so we could all run a decent time. Mark in turn got onto Ross Cunningham who decided it could take place. So thanks too all involved and those who made it happen.

I didn't want the race to just be put on for me, so I got in touch with a lot of the top Scots that I could and asked them to get in touch with as many others as they could, just so we could have a decent race come Saturday. I wanted and needed pacemakers. I have found it very difficult to run the whole 15 laps by myself so I was hoping having pacemakers would make it easier.

I requested the help of Mark Pollard and Kevin Kane to pace, who did a great job. I owe them now, but I have already said I would pace the first Indoor Summer Mile in Kelvin Hall this July, you heard it here first. In all seriousness having Mark and Kevin in front of me today really helped, They hit the lap times perfect just as I wanted and it was great too see fellow athletes help each other out.

I found the last few laps extremely hard but the support was great, so again a big thanks to all everyone who stayed around to watch and cheer us on. It made the those last few laps a little bit easier. I crossed the line looked at my watch and it read 8.00.50, which was later rounded up to 8.01.00. Again short of the qualifying time, but a PB.

I know I'm in great shape right now, and if I could run a track 5000m race next weekend I would as I'm in shape to run a PB. The frustrating thing is that I keep running better but I now have to end my indoor season, although I feel like I have more left in me.

I'll decide over the next day or two what's next for me and then put a plan in place to achieve my goals for the track season.

Until next time enjoy your running

Summer Mile

I'm currently working on this and if it can get the green light, I'll post it on a number of websites including this one and see how much interest there is.
Cheers and thanks for reading
