London Bupa 10,000m

Hi all,

It's been a good couple of weeks training and the normal rushing around of juggling running Work and Family life nothing new there then, but that's life just got to get on with it even when you are feeling knacked and tied things have got to be done, I don't know what I did with my time after training before Alfie was born.

And now that he is walking/running around like someone has giving him 15 cans of Red bull in one go makes it even more of a challenge, it has helped my training by increasing my speed over short distances no end trying to stop him destroying the front room but all good fun wouldn't change it for the world, ok only when I have a race the day before would be good to chill out a bit more.
As said training is going well this was the first week since the Half Marathon that my legs felt back to normal and normal session were resumed, had good chat with coach this week about a few things what we need to work on during the summer the main thing is the turn speed the strength and stamina is fine just need to work on that a little bit more ,also we talked about hooking up with some of my team mates from Bedford &County eg Janes /Lawler as I said in my last blog Owain Matthews is moving to Australia in July, so need to look at training with some of my other club mates if they will have me that is, which I think would be good for me change of scenery and help with my training.

The last chat we had was about me making my Marathon debut at some point next year but need to get a few more Half's in before then which I am excited about and think I can do well at this distance he says while fingers crossed let you know when we have decided the race which it will be.

On Holiday from Wed which I call warm weather training although the Mrs calls it our holiday... it will be both probably and I don't think I have looked forward to it so much, looking forward to getting some good miles in and some good quality sessions in and even a track session maybe, but also looking forward to spending good time with the Mrs and little man which is the most important thing above everything and not having to rush around.

Race Report; London Bupa 10,000m

I was looking forward to this race never raced round the city of London before and I knew there was going to be a very good field which was going to give me the chance to run sub 30 again.

The day started early getting the train into London, the weather was ok quite warm but still quite windy, but it's the same for everyone.
Went for warm up normal story feeling rubbish, bumped into a few of the other guys ,Andy/Dave Norman/Barnes/Skinner and Moreau, Wicks, once the chatting was done then onto the stretching and the drills and then we had to make are way other to the start, lucky it wasn't raining otherwise we would have got soaked, the crowds weren't massive but it was a good turnout.

To the start it was a very narrow start with everyone squeezed in like sardines, then the horn went and we were off the pace started off pretty quick felt ok went into the lead group went through the 1st km in 2:48 felt good just sit in the back of the group then we hit the 2nd k was 5:48 again feeling ok I backed off a little at this point because it had increased a little too much and i wanted to make sure i could try and pick the second 5k up, hit 3 k in 8:48 still feeling ok in to a good rhythm hit the 4 k at 11:52 And headed towards the 5 k point went through in 14:49 and I was feeling pretty good i was on for the sub 30 but hit 6 km and it got quite breezy and I caught up Hudspith and Andy Norman, then I had to try and close down Scott Overall at 8k but once I caught up it was tough and the wind along the embankment was tough. I really needed someone to run with to help me finish strong and run sub 30 but wasn't to be and I finished in 30:14/18 (I think) I will have to see and not sure what position, may be 12th.

Pretty disappointed as I would have liked to run sub 30 and know I am in shape to do it but looking by other peoples results everyone was slightly down, and hearing people saying the course was long so who knows and we will have to see, but it was a good race and well organised, I would do it again.

As for me next race will be a 5 mile and try and run sub 24 min and a 5k race but first a bit of warm weather training to be done and some family time.

Have a good week I will try and blog from Portugal next week and let you know how training is going and the tan thanks for taking the time to read the blog, and keep on training hard.

Long run

Hi,my long run is pretty much easy most of the time as I believe sunday run is time on you're feet and getting the miles in, avg pace per mile is 6:45/7 min mile but I always pick the last 2 miles up hope this helps

Hi darren, just wondering what pace you would say your sunday run is at? easy, hard, mid-hard? do you push yourself or relax?
