Update
Hi there everyone hope all is good and training and racing is going well and you are enjoying some of the sunshine we have been getting recently if you have been one of the lucky ones.
It has been a busy couple of weeks of training work and the family as usual, well Owain has left for a new life in Australia, so it has been sit down time with coach and discuss a few things e.g. training /racing plans for the next batch of races and what we want to achieve etc,. Come out feeling quite positive about where we are heading some good things in the pipe line which should make things a bit more interesting to say the least more on that in the next few months once things are set in stone and the man about the dog has been dealt with.
On the Training front been up and down did are local 10k race the Sunday before I knew it was a tough course because was lead cyclist last year and I remember thinking it would be tough to run sub 31 on it with the amount of hills involved and I wasn’t wrong I won the race running 31 min which I was pretty happy with just used it as a session and got quite a lot out of it in terms of running sections like a session I would like to think on a flat course it is worth over a minute judging by everyone’s time were down on what they normally run ,and as I said before I like to support the local races as I think it is important for the future of road races in local towns .
This week has seen training be very up and down or in other words struggling at first or thought I had hay fever you the symptoms blocked noise, sore throat and generally feeling crap, so just got on with it taking the tablets didn’t seem to do anything and sessions were getting done but I found that the pace I normally do was feeling more harder to do and the runs during the week were a struggle but again just put up with it.
Had race planned for Friday a 5 mile road race which I went ahead and done which was the worst thing I could have done from the word go I felt heavy legged and heavy all over which is unusual for a 9 stone runner to feel but couldn’t breath my chest and back were so tight felt crap managed to get through the race just, won it by quite a way and ran 24:48 so pleased that I can feel that crap and ran all the way by myself and still a decent time on a very tough course.
The next day I was feeling crap chest was worse and throat was so painful went for a easy run and had to turn back after 40 min and decided to go the NHS Walking centre which is something I wouldn’t normally do but couldn’t wait till Monday or whenever I could get in the Doctors waited over 2hrs to get seen and I was told I have a chest infection given antibiotics for 7 days these tablets are like horse tabs massive need a litre of water to get them down me ,but least I know that there was something wrong I know my body so well after 23 yrs of running but sometimes you think you can get through it but you can’t one advice listen to your body in hindsight I shouldn’t have raced Friday but what done is done.
So for the next week I will be just doing easy runs and seeing how i feel, was going to BMC track 10k at Solihull on Saturday so just have to see how I feel each day, as I want to run as I would like to run well under 30 which i am in that shape to do but not feeling like this, I know there is a good field assembled but health comes first and I will chat with coach near the time to seek his advice as well.
Well that’s all at this moment in time thanks for reading my blog
Keep putting the hard work in training and the results in races will take care of themselves.
