Blisworth 5 mile Road Race

Blisworth 5 mile road race report

Hi guys/ girls

I was I bit worried about the race during the day because I hadn’t raced since the Norwich 5k which was about a month ago, I hate leaving races that long but that’s how it has panned out,  plus the weather during the day was bad I thought I might need my diving gear rather than my races. But luckily the weather improved and the race conditions were perfect no wind, warm just what you want.

I did this race some yrs ago I think 5 maybe the race always was strong at the front end with runners like Will Levitt, Steve Bodie, Glynn Tromans and always a couple of Kenyans turned up, but like a lot of races it has declined which is sad because this is great race.

This year was still a good turn out about 600 plus runners, and I think the BBQ and the beer and music after the race helps keep numbers high, it‘s always good to hear other runners thoughts on running and what they do etc.

To the race itself did my warm-up which as usual feels like someone has drained all the energy from me so nothing new there then.

The start of the race is about a ten minutes jog away /20mins if you walk so I only did 10mins jog than stretched at the race HQ, then jogged over to the start with a few climbs along the way which is never a good sign as it usually means you see the hills again in the race, got to the start did my strides by that time we were called to the start.

Bang gun goes off, we went down the hill into the village and lopped around the county roads and back heading towards the start, by this time there were 3 of us in a group as usual I had to be leading as we hit the first mile in 4.36. I felt strong and relaxed considering it was a good pace, as we headed back to the start the big climb started which is when I kept the same pace, and kept working by now there were 2 of us when we reached the top again. I kept pushing a I headed towards the 2nd mile I had a lead of about 40 metres time at 2nd mile overall was 9.41, which was good pace still considering the long climb.

By now I knew I was feeling pretty good and I started to relax even more  but still trying to keep the pace high, heading to wards the 5k with just me and my new mate pot hole man it still very up and down the course which by now we are right in the country, arrived at 5k in 14.36 which I was pleased about.  I kept up the pace after the climb, the 4th mile soon come around arrived there in 19.28 so just had to hold it together and keep chasing the tractor(lead vehicle). By now I had a big lead, I finished the race in 24mins 15 secs which I was pleased about felt strong and comfortable and iam sure on a flat course I can run 23min high so well pleased, 2nd place come home 25.12min with 3rd 10sec behind.

A big thank you to wootton road runners who did a great job of organising the race, my next race is going to be the British league 5k, then 10k road race in Prague for the south of England so I have some races to work towards

                     Keep Running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warm up pre race

Darren
Why are you feeling drained at the start of a race warm up (and its nothing new apparently)
Is it lack of rest, poor diet or pre race nerves?
Do you take vitamin supplements for energy etc?
Cheers
