thanks for the detailed reply!
Guest Posted on February 1st, 2012Hi there. I tend to just run "as I feel" on easy runs. This could be sub 7min miling average on a good day or outside 8 the day after a session or race. On an easy run I don't concern myself with pace, the purpose of the run is to recover and on longer runs, condition my body to be able to handle being out on my feet for a long time. Monday nights run was a bit quicker getting down to sub 6 min miling, again I don't get too hung up on the pace but it's important to earmark a couple of runs a week where you will try to run at a good rhythm as this builds your engine. This week I only ran one run like this because of the race. The other point I should add is that if a run is say an average of 7:00 per mile, the first mile might well be 8:00 and the last might be 6:00. The first mile always tends to be my slowest as my ageing body finds it difficult to start any quicker without being warmed up! Cheers, Dave
