Bowdon 5km

This was the second of a series of three 5k races my club organise over the summer.  I always aim to run in one of these three events.   I only decided to run this one just as I was leaving work at 6:30pm, and the race start time was at 7:15pm so things were a little tight!

I didn’t really warm up for the race so intended to ease into it, but found myself in front pretty much straight away, I was able to pull clear in the first kilometre and once clear concentrated on running at a good tempo.  The course is fairly flat, and a two lap circuit with the last 500m of each lap over an area of grassland called the Devisdale.  By 4km (12:20-ish) I had a safe gap and didn’t push it over the final km.  It was nice to win the race as the last time I ran here I was beaten by Steve Vernon.  It was noted that the previous course was slightly short and they correctly taped the section over the Devisdale, as per the course measurement, to account for this.  What was a fast race is not really a quick one anymore, but surely it’s better to cover 5km than not!
