Default The Jim Alder interview

well guys just read the interview, I must say what a cracker it had everything didnt it, man that guy trainined some of his weekly milage was amazing in my eyes,

Quote:
I ran plenty of easy runs particularly the long Sunday morning run which consisted of 20 to 30 miles
superb, how many of you guys out there do easy runs like that? in fact how many of you guys out there do mileage like his during training, i for one know know where near that kind of mileage and never will be(not an elite by the way).

he did raise some good questions or made some points that made me think about the whole running scene of today.

Quote:
Easy runs to my mind are very important and I know that National Coaches in my day and even today refer to easy runs as "junk mileage" but none of them have trained champion marathon runners!! ...Have they?
does anyone out there share this ethos as well?

and ill leave this on his last few lines of that story, let me know all your thoughts and opinions on this one.

Quote:
My view is that runners today do not race enough and they listen too much to their coaches. They do not do XC or short track and only race to pay their bills. Remember as I said earlier none of us in the 60's had a coach and none of them, Radcliffe apart, do the mileage and hard work we did.

Default Thanks again Jim

Hi Jim.....George and Tom....and everyone else at Morpeth,

Thanks for your contribution to RunnersLife Jim, the insight to your big races were great for me.

I am sure it will kick off some interesting comments on this thread.

Sp8ty is staying with Simon this week and Jim`s article was under discussion at the breakfast table this morning....after they had been out for a easy morning run, prior to their speed session, also with James Thie, tonight at Neath track.

Sp8ty and James are looking for 8 x 1K / 90secs...Simon 12 x 1K....I will be there tonight, filming the session for RunnersLife.

Charles

He has some great points and clearly trained very very hard. Great to get a few of the guys from yesteryear on the site and hear their thoughts and get an insight in to what they got up to.

Default Paula is "bricking it"

Jim lad,

"none of them, Radcliffe apart, do the mileage and hard work we did."

Well, I never knew Paula was a bricklayer?

In fairness he did tell me to f*** Off, but he thought I was you, tried to talk to me from 30 meters away and when I gave him a blank expression he kinda flipped! lol

Default "Marathon and Chips"

If you want to read more on Jim his Biography is called "Marathon and Chips".

It would be great if "RunnersLife" viewers could set off a boost of sales for him.

It is sure to be a good read!
