Motivation

Lets be honest, running is a bloody hard sport. If you dedicated the same length of time that you spend carrying out all of your running related activities to a number of other professions you would most likely be rich. Therefore, why do we run? Pondering this question has probably come as a result of the recent inclement weather that has just hit Indianapolis over the last couple of days. Regardless of running a fair amount at the moment and having to wrap up considerably for sub zero temperatures my motivation for running has been sky high.

The majority of my motivation recently has come from the hype and excitement of the USA Olympic trials for the marathon. Flotrack have had a number of very good interviews, blogs and workouts with athletes aspiring to make the USA Olympic team. Being swept away with the build-up I cheekily logged a few more miles than planned this week. On Saturday I watched the Marathon coverage and after seeing Dathan Ritzenhein miss out on the final spot for London by one position and only a few seconds I laced my trainers up a second time and bashed out another run. His tears and heartbreak crossing the finish line inspired me to work extra hard in the pursuit of my dream. I'm sure Ritz will be back and make London 2012 in the 10km.

Currently my motivation for running isn't to prove people wrong or right, it isn't to gain a sponsorship or make the next big international championship (I still think about these things). Just now I am just very happy with the process of my running. Training is going well and I'm just excited to see how this is going to transfer into my next couple of races. I've just booked my flights back home for the UK indoor trials so regardless of securing a world indoor qualifying time I'll be toeing the line of the 1500 looking to compete as well as I can.

Below are a couple of pictures from my track session on tuesday (see my training from this week). As you can see the weather was considerably better than what has hit us the last couple of days.
