Neil 8th In New York Mile Indoors
Neil Speaight lined up for his second race in a week after coming second in the Bermuda KPMG Mile last weekend.
Neil was joined by other British athletes in former RunnersLife athlete Mark Draper and RunnersLife 'Guest Runners' Ricky Stevenson & Andrew Baddeley.
Again racing over a mile but this time indoors the four British athletes were racing in the famous Armory track in New York City. Last year Neil placed a close second and was the start of his indoor season, without to many track sessions due to injury problems.
After pacemakers Chris Spooner and Rob Novak peeled off, Baddeley, who won the Continental Airlnes Fifth Avenue Mile here last September, went through three-quarters in 2:58. His triumph was never really in doubt. He did glance back several times "just to see how close they were," but he left the impression that he could have run faster if circumstances required it. Ricky Stevenson (3:56.31) and Mark Draper (3:56.80) made the race a 1-2-3 British sweep. They also ran career best indoor times. Neil placed 8th in 4.05 with no real 'sessions' under his belt he should be pleased with his run and will surely be looking to go faster in the rest of the indoor season.
