Sam Haughian Memorial Fund

Nick Goolab won the National XC Championships on the weekend and has been helped by the Sam Haughian Memorial fund. Nick was very thankful for the help and was delighted when he received the letter saying 'You are awarded a bursary from the fund established in memory of the late Sam Haughian and I am pleased to confirm the award to you of 'X' to help cover training expenses'

Nick said "I would like to thank Sam Haughian Memorial fund. They kindly gave me some money for winning the National on the weekend, and they did the same last year. There is money available for the winner of the National Junior Cross and the National Junior 5k on the track which they give out to help cover training costs. I never knew Sam, and I was never lucky enough to see him run, but Steve has told me about him before and he sounded like a great talent. Also speaking to his coach on the weekend, Conrad Milton, he was telling me just how good Sam was. Then looking at his times, it's clear to see the guy was animal. Thank you to the fund for helping me out, it's greatly appreciated".

Sam Haughain was one of the best athlete's the UK when he ran 13:19 in 2002 in Manchester at the Commonwealth Games, finishing 5th at just 23 years old.

Sam died on 24th April, 2004 in South Afirca on a training camp with the British team and will be missed by many involved with the sport.
