Comments On "Back In Scotland"

Yes, I fully agree too. The reason I got injured I think is that I had never been injured before so couldn't recognise the difference between and injury and an 'ache and pain' from hard training, but at the same time, I wasn't mature enough or maybe scared to admit to myself that I was injured as I just wanted to race so badly, but hopefully next time il be more aware and willing to listen to what my body is really saying to me.... FINGERS CROSSED ANYWAY!!
Yes, am praying for a good summer season, as ive managed to mess the last 2 up... but I think im in a better place mentally and physically to enable me to achieve what I want in the summer. So again fingers crossed nothing gets in the way of that happening :D

Thank You :) x

I agree with the comments savannah are fair but she doesnt know your body like you. I think its awesome that you are prepared to do high mileage, and seeing as this is your first injury dont seem to be harmed by it.
Hope your injury gets better soon, so you can wack out a good track season.

Hi Savanna, I fully understand where your coming from, but I am only doing what my body is handling and we are deciding what to do day by day, i am not under a schedule at the moment, as we have to see the reaction it has to runs.

Also I havent increased it 100%, because before I got injured I was on 85miles per week and last week I only did 55/60 so still along way to go, plus it is all slow running, nothing has been above 7min miling so im not hammering my legs, im just jogging.

There was no mid week breakdown, I did a cross training session because I wanted to get my heart rate up as you have to do that to get fitter, and I knew from what my Physio has said that it wouldn't handle a running session at that moment in time, although now it can handle a very light running session.

I know my body very well and know what it can and can't handle and this injury has just taught me even more about myself, so whilst in the short term its an annoying break to running etc... in the long term it has taught me so many lessons, and therefore I look at it as a blessing in disquise :D .

My legs would have been sore/tired if id only done 30miles so made no difference, as it was just the impact that made them sore. I cant mess about on too low mileage as it will be doing nothing for me, sometimes you just have to tough it out. My legs are absolutely fine this week as they are used to it more now.

I dont believe im coming back too quickly, its been 2 months already since I did any proper running, it will be another few weeks before im doing anything 'normal' and I have NO race plans of yet what so ever, im going to wait until im fit before I race, Im not pressurising myself with deadlines and therefore there should be no further breakdowns.

Thanks Lily x

Too much too soon?

Dear lily,

From looking at your "building up slowly" week and "back in scotland" week, it was a shock to see that you had doubled all your days so quickly.

Dont you think that when you have an injury that you are coming back from you should steadily increase your milegae. For example, by 30% each week, instead of 100% in one week. This could of stopped the mid week breakdown into a cross training session and stopped your legs being tired and sore? Also would a rest day go amiss?

From knowledge and past experiences, its not wise to come back from injury too fast. There may be short term benefits but not many people get the long term benefits as they would have broken down again.

I would love to know your thoughts on the subjects i have raised?

Many thanks Savannah.

Slightly intrigued as to how you managed a 5.5mile to work and then 1.5mile from work.

Good luck with the continued recovery
