Review

There are numerous compression products on the market these days, mostly from a cycling or triathlon background, so I was keen to see what American running brand Saucony had to offer in their AmpPro2 range.

The Saucony AMP PRO2 range claims to improve blood circulation, increasing oxygenated blood levels - all critical to better training and recovery. Increased O2 levels have been demonstrated to help:

Increase strength and build endurance
Promote healing
Reduce recovery time

The secret to the Saucony apparel is an innovative compound consisting of 13 natural minerals infused into a polyester fibre. The micron sized particles enable light emitted by the body to be absorbed by the Celliant fibres. These fibres then act as a catalyst and recycle this energy back to the body. The body then absorbs this previously unavailable energy, triggering biological functions to increase blood flow and oxygen levels.

Celliant is a specially formulated material that is knit, woven or added to fabrics to enhance oxygen levels in the body. Increased oxygen levels have been clinically proven to relieve pain, promote quicker healing, improve sleep quality, heighten athletic performance and improve overall wellness.

From the moment I collected the package from the post office, I could sense there was a little bit more about the Saucony Amp Pro2 Calf Sleeves.

They came packaged in a screw top container, and not a card box.

An "L" & "R" printed inside each one to show which side they are for, after all, our calves and lower legs aren't perfectly round tubes.

First outing was a 30min tempo session, and upon putting the sleeves on I found the fit in size large to offer more compression than my other calf guards in the same size, which given that they have done away with the hair tugging rubber strip around the top really helped to keep them in place. I also found them to be slightly longer than other products which, in my case, got rid of that annoying little exposed patch above my socks.

Conclusion

I didn't personally notice that these sleeves offered any more benefits over other comparable sleeves in my recovery, however, I feel that the overall attention to detail that Saucony have put into the manufacturing , and in my case, the fit, makes them stand out above the rest. I will be defiantly looking to invest in other products from the range.
