Goals or Resolutions
published on
So it's January and the beginning of another new year where we start to plan all over, set new goals and makes all sorts of resolutions. Pardon me for asking, but what has changed?
I mean, what has actually stopped and what has re-started? All over the country right now people are talking about their resolutions - what they are going to stop or possibly what they are going to start. In one form, this is a great idea, i.e. trying to positively address something that needs changing. But why does this always have to happen in January - surely we are doing this everyday of the year. Is the January resolution not a con that essentially means you haven't addressed your weaknesses earlier?
So if you are a runner of any standard, then absolutely you can be setting new goals. For many they probably new what these were in Dec, but I'll give you grace in setting them on Jan 1st. But if you are setting yourself resolutions - i.e. must train harder, must train smarter, must be more disciplined... then I must ask you the question - what the hell were you doing before and why have you left it till now?
Everyday is a day that contributes to something, so don't lose it, waste it or let it pass you by. Every day represents an opportunity to learn, understand, address and possibly change. So if you have set yourself resolutions, ask yourself why have you done it now and not earlier as the resolution is somewhat of a method of hiding behind a larger issue. Take sometime to think it through - what have you done, set goals or resolutions!
Me - I have the goals you already know about, Nice Ironman with the Virgin London Marathon nicely placed in April and plenty of training and events between now and then. Resolutions... not me, everyday I look to make a change, leaving it till January will be too late!
