On the start line and with my new Saucony racers on (A2, blue and white) and my RunnersLife vest I was ready to go. As the gun went off I got a bit cut up but as soon as I rounded a few people I went straight to the front as we went up a little climb. Down the road and about 400m there was another steep short hill where I pushed on and into my stride. The wind was straight into the face but I wanted to run hard this morning and see what I had in the body. There were a few guys behind and after Jon Wills took the lead for a while I realised the wind was quite strong as I nearly ran into his back a few times!

By 4k I thought the pace was starting to slip and I wanted to keep it high so went to the front but seemed to get a slight gap, I decided to just go for it and keep the rhythm especially as the wind was now on my back. I got a decent gap and think some cyclists shouted about 15seconds as I went past 5k, 6k and then 7k. Then I heard footsteps and I turned to have a look...he was catching me! I wasn't feeling really tired but had probably switched off and as the wind was now back in my face I probably slacked off a bit. Anyway as he went past I went with him just hanging on as he pushed it up a climb at 8k. At the top of the climb I was feeling alright so went back to the front and a couple of times I tried to shake him off but realised after the last slope he was there to stay.

As we came to last tight right hand bend into the finish he got a little gap and then we held it as we both ran down the hill to the finish line. It was a good little tussle in the end. It's not a great spectators course as James Thie pointed out at the end so quite a quiet run but a good effort and I was pleased with my run even though I didn't take the win.....well done to Jon Wills.

Makes up for last week mate, that's a really good run on a tough course by the sounds of it!
