O heck this one was different to most races.....mainly as I never raced! I got to the race early as I wasn't sure of directions but it was quite easy in the end. I had a chat to a few guys and then when Steve Sharp got there we went for a run along with Mark Miles. We did about 16/17 minutes very easy and I felt very heavy which is usually a good thing on race day, it's when I feel good in warm up that I need to worry!
So for the last 20minutes we went our own ways as we have our own final way of doing things before the race. I put the ipod on and did some drills and then after about 10minutes I went to the start area, I put the race flats on and did the first stride which I always do quite slow and build into it but as I pushed off the right foot I felt something pull in my right bum cheek. Sometimes things pull when I am running and then disappear (if that makes sense) and is more of a twinge than a pull so I jogged for a couple of minutes and then tried again. Bad news....it was worse and every time I lifted my leg it hurt like hell. I decided straight away to pull out of the race, which is quite a hard thing to do as you get this feeling off 'what if it goes in a few minutes' but I have done something like this on the track before and made it a whole lot worse.
I sat on the side of the road and watched them all go off into the distance which felt a bit surreal as I have travelled all the way from South Wales to Manchester for a warm up!!
So that was my race (if you can call it that), I stuck around as I had come all that way and watched the finish. I was hoping good mate Kevin Skinner could brake 30minutes to prove a few people wrong but it wasn't to be....next time though kev!

it's always brave to pull out of a race when you're there, warmed up and in your vest and shorts. I've made that mistake before, racing on an little injury and then had to have 6 weeks off as it developed into something bad. Hopefully you've caught the injury before it becomes serious.
