Hi, my name is Sophie Whiteside and I am a long distance runner from Liverpool Harriers and a Level 3 qualified Personal Trainer. I will be offering advice and writing articles on various forms of strength and conditioning, core work, injury prevention and cross training for runners.

I work with quite a few of the Liverpool Harriers team with running specific circuit sessions run from the clubhouse, which has helped improve their resistance to injury and improve any weaknesses and imbalances they may have. Hopefully my section will provide you with valuable information as a tool to refer back to and help aid your training in addition to the running specific advice offered from the existing resident athletes and contributors. If you have any questions or requests for articles please get in touch.  For more information, running advice and news check out my website www.pbpersonaltraining.com.

Personal Trainers do much more than just watch you work out and count your reps, they are fitness professionals who take pride in their work and have a passion to deliver their expertise in anatomy, nutrition and exercise programming.  Different PTs have specific areas of expertise.  Personally I specialise in running training and women's fitness as well as delivering regular circuit classes and boot camps. The reasons why someone would pay a personal trainer vary and depend on individual needs and goals.  It might be that you want to get faster, work on your endurance, loose weight, tone up or just generally feel better and more confident about yourself.

Using proper form is critical for exercise to be effective. Using improper form can be a waste of time or worse, can cause an injury.  Consistency is key to improvement and with long spells of consistent training results can easily be achieved.  A good trainer will observe your form as you exercise and can make adjustments and modifications if necessary.  As part of my one to one sessions I analyse any muscular imbalances and weaknesses that you may have and offer ways to correct them.  This is particularly important if you are older or recovering from injury.
